What kind of strings do you use?

I use the Rotosound Jazz Flatwounds on my P-Basses. I believe the gauge is .110-50 or something like that.

On my Franken-Jag I tend to use Thomastik Infeld flats, and I use LaBella flats on my Washburn.

Thanks to a severe nickel allergy Ive freaked nothing but stainless. Even so I think Id still be breaking Rotosounds.

Anyone got a word on why D'Addario put a halt on those fantastic Prisms?

Amen to that! ive got freshly boiled set on my warwick and they have stayed bright and clear for a week noiw! and i only boiled them with water( and maybe a bit a baking soda, but im not sure what thatll do i just ad dit for fun)

I just bought a pack of Fender Flatwound Stainless Steel (9050ML) today, they seem pretty cool, really smooth (probably because they're stainless).





Haven't tried them yet, I still need a wire cutter.






They were the cheapest ones there.

I use Thomastik Power Bass on P -77. Thomastik Jazz Rounds on all the Jazz's and LaBella Nylons on a Rob Allen MB-2F.
I really prefer the feel of TI strings. They are extraordinary.

I just switched from using DR FatBeams (Marcus Miller signature set) to using DR Black Beauties on my 6. They're definitely different, and oddly, they break in and get brighter...

Rotosound swing bass nickels (pure nickel) on my Jazz, precision, and zone...Rotosound jazz flats on my fretless. Rotosound swing 66's stainless on my alvarez with tremelo, and Rotosound swing 66's stainless on my 6 string.

Ok I've used on both a MIM Deluxe Jazz and a Geddy Lee Jazz:
1. (MIM Deluxe Jazz) Ghs Bass Boomers Medium 45-105 and found them way too bright and almost cheap in quality.
2. (MIM Deluxe Jazz) DR Lo-Riders but I used a 5 string set on a 4 string bass and tuned down a step and a half for hardcore metal and hardcore punk. I found they had good strong tone but I wasn't crazy about them and they were rough on my fingers at first.
3. (Geddy Lee J)I tried Rotosound strings on in standard gauge (45-105) these were the ones with the lion on it. They were great but still seemed to bright for my taste.
4.(Geddy Lee J) I wanted to experiment with flatwounds so I tried D'Addario Flatwounds in standard Gauge (45-105) these were great strings if you want to go flatwound. I decided I needed to stick to roundwound.
5. (Geddy Lee J and MIM Deluxe Jazz) Rotosound Swing Bass 66 Model#: RN 66LD Long Scale Standard Gauge (45-105) nickel on steel Roundwound. Ok these strings I used for about a year and they are great on both of my Fender J basses. On the Geddy it is great, because you can shape the tne for funk, punk, metal, hard rock etc...Also these strings gave me the closest to Geddy Lee's tone.
6. DR Extra Life Black Beauties BKB-45. (45-65-85-105)
I had been eyeing these for a while and reading up on talkbass on these because I wanted more growl from my Geddy. I was originally going to put the pickups in series on the Geddy but once I popped in these new DR Black Beauties, I was satisfied, FINALLY! I found my string-at least with Fender J basses! These strings not only look great and feel good (not as rough as the Lo Riders) the tone is the best tone I've gotten, very fat-and yes when I do chords on the higher part of the neck-they sound clear. Everything about these strings tone wise is amazing to me. Looks wise is a major plus too-but the tone on my Geddy is exactly what i wanted from it! If you own a Geddy Lee bass put these strings on-if you own a Fender Jazz Bass I recommend these coated strings to you! My journey is over! DR EXTRA LIFE IS THE WAY TO GO!
