My new Fender strings today are set... when new they sound like a freakin' piano on steroids, especially the E. Some serious b...ass-slappin' goin' on today.

fretless warwick passive - string of choice: T-I jazz flats=probably the closest string one can find to get that upright sound on a bass guitar. tried dr lo-riders which sound great but too screetchy/noisy using roundwounds, tried rotosound 77 flats-sounded great but i hate high tension strings, ernie ball flats sound ok but tension high.

fretted active warwick - string of choice: DM blue steel SS. tried dr hi-beam ss literally hated them way too bright & most of all made me feel that i was listening to a piano play the bass notes & i want my bass to sound like a bass-not a piano; D-A xl, dr lo-rider & carvin nickel strings all sound far better than the hi-beams to me.

hi mikey-wasn't alluding to the the longevity of the xl's only sound preference compared to hi-beams. so many people do love so many different kinds of strings, that's why so many can be sold. my real point was that for all the wonderful views i had read of hi-beams they were not to my sound liking at all, tho i liked their elasticity the sound truly disappointed me. playing them for several weeks never changed my opinion of their sound to me. i don't mean to imply they aren't great strings for others.

I was looking for good strings for my 5-string Wishbass strings through body and ended up contacting LaBella and Wyres. Both told me that flat wounds would break at the bridge with my system and both told me that they would have a solution in the next few weeks or months.
Well, LaBella were first to deliver. They told me that the strings they had made for some decades and discontinued several years ago, are now being requested so much that they decided to restart the production.

They asked for exact measures and I gave these to them along with a lot of pictures of the bass (which is probably one of the coolest that Wishbass has made).

They made two sets for me and I am really happy with the sound, even though the low B does not give exactly the same sound family feeling, being a bit duller.

The sound is deep to medium high, very mature and full.

I recommend them.
