What kind of strings do you use?

well since anybody gives a **** about what people say around here, i bought some strings. fender 7150.are cool till now, bright but i don't know, they are kind of hard, i mean, they don't vibrate too much, maybe to little.i'll see them after some time.cool strings thou

Right now I'm using old Hi-beams on my Ibanez Musician with EMGs, D'addario EXL165 nickel-wounds on my P-bass, Chromes on my Jazz, and that's about it. I have a pack each of heavier-gauge Lo-riders and Hi-beams in the mail, though. Lo-riders go on the Ibanez, Hi-beams go on the P. Or maybe the other way around. We'll see.

Have they improved their durability??? Started out on boomers some 18 years ago.. their kickass sound only lasted 5-10 min those days..

Been playing DR-Hibeamers 40-100 on my 78 Jazz and
DR-Hibeamers 30-100 on my Warmoth Jazz 5.string fretless for about... 12,13,14,15 years??

they are the most metal strings around and since they don't have much top end i can leave em on forever without the tone becoming dull. which is good cause i got 3 guitars i got to restring all the time

I used to have roundwounds on my Yamaha BB414 (I quess they were rotosound steels). They sounded really nice. I just put a set of D'Addario Chrome flats on my BB414, but haven't played them much yet, so can't comment on how good they sound. By the way, is it normal for flats to feel like sandpaper when they're brand new?

D'Addario Chrome Flats (Extra Light Guage) on a Bernie Goodfellow (GB) pre production Standard IV Prototype.

Loads of thump and just enough "zing" for my purposes.

Now after a bit of playing they're starting to feel silky smooth and have less friction. And the tone is getting really nice. I like these strings (D'addario Chrome flats)

I use roundwound Curt Mangan Nickel strings (.45-130) 5 string set on an SX (Essex) Ash BG-205.

FWIW:

no more than it's normal for rounds to feel like a wood rasp.

Two years plus ago I could have commented on new TI flats but the only thing I remember is they sounded like rounds for about two weeks.

Sold a bass the other day, pulled the TI's and stuck some old rounds out of the drawer on it. Fired it up to check it out before packing and the rounds on it actually sounded pretty good. I have a Lightwave that sounded more like a piano than bass with rounds and I may just throw some back on it to get that sound.

my guess is if you can't find a set of strings in 27 pages of feedback, well..............don't expect any feedback.

If it's not worth your time to look, it's not worth they're time to post - something that's probably already been posted 50 times anyway.

Sunbeams on my Lakland and Warwick fretlesses (fretli?), and Lo Riders on my Lakland fretted, though when it comes time to change strings on the fretted, I might try Fat Beams. I had D'Addario Chromes on the fretted for a while, liked the tone, hated the tension.

GHS Bass Boomers, Medium-Light, Long scale Plus (shorter ones don't fit my Gibson Victory's long neck). Been using these strings for a couple of decades now. Love 'em. See no reason to switch.

I have about 8 basses (haven't counted today) and all but one have flats. That one's a Jazz and the rounds are 7 years old.

My preference is Labella Deep Talkin' flats, and on my Rogue betale bass, the Labella Hofner flats.

And my fretless has Fender nylon tapewounds.
