What kind of strings do you use?

Agreed. They sometimes have grounding issues as well...such was my case. Where did my G string go?

I have used steel Rotosound Swings for 25 years, and sometimnes nickels. I've just got a set of groundwounds, which are a bit easier on the fingers.

I'm thinking about trying out some DR Flats on my P-Bass, it always felt just right with the DR nickel hex cores.

I've got D'Addario XL170's on my J-bass, which feel pretty good, however, I would like to swap out my pickups for something with a bit more presence.

And Thomastik Spirocore Weichs on my upright.

D'addario EXL170 on my both of my P bass's and both of my Ibanez bass's, but I like them better after about 8 hours of playing they are not as bright, I have been using them for over 15 years.

Sadowsky SBS40 Stainless Steel Roundwound. I know they're suposed to be for funk but they can give a very mellow sound with the right playing technique, and when played with a ribbed shark-fin pick you can get some great 'twang' sounds!

XL Pros .045 to .130. EPS170-5 SL They sound deep and rich. Piano like. Got some heavier gauge ones on the way.

elixir - both medium and heavy . Use the mediums on all my basses ,and the heavy on one bass only . Love these strings for the sound we do . Last forever if you want them to , i change them all monthly at worst , only cause I can , not cause i need to . Have not had a dead string yet . Cause their coated you get no rust etc .

how can i vote? i use all of the above. it depends on what the bass wants and than i'll choose what bass suits my current needs. i have 16 basses! i can't vote for just one.

That is a big answer really. I have seen players using everything from flats to stainless steel rounds for worship music. I use either DR Lo-Rider SS strings or D'Addario Pro Steels when playing worship (or rock). If we have to play really mellow I change my technique up a little be placing my plucking hand by the neck and plucking softly. Sometime I cut the treble on my preamp. The point being that despite the strings you like, you can get a large part of your tone out of your hands. I guess that is one of those true cliches.

In any case you will just have to find what works for you. I suggest trying to go for that sound you have in your head. That will make you a happier player. It may take a while as you try different strings.

They're dead out of the box (in comparison to non-coated) as in "lacking in-yo-face presence". BUT they have a warm tone that it sustains for quite sometime especially if you dont use a pick.
