What kind of strings do you use?

I use either DR Lo-Rider SS strings or D'Addario Pro Steels when playing worship (or rock). If we have to play really mellow I change my technique up a little be placing my plucking hand by the neck and plucking softly. Sometime I cut the treble on my preamp. The point being that despite the strings you like, you can get a large part of your tone out of your hands. I guess that is one of those true cliches. :p

In any case you will just have to find what works for you. I suggest trying to go for that sound you have in your head. That will make you a happier player. It may take a while as you try different strings.

Hi everybody, thanks for your kind comments. I am a returning bassist. In fact I bougt a Warwick Corvette after not playing for 20 years, (the most stupid thing I have done in my life). I want to ask you some advice. I have tried d´adario strings, but the ones that are shipped with my warwick sound ... a little bit strange to me. I want to ask you if it is correct to continue playing with this strings or I better change them. As you can notice, I am a rookie on the bass stuff again!. Thanks a lot,

I have been playing just regular ole D'Addaios for a long time, but today I went out and bought some rotosound RS 66s and threw em on my 08 jazz and so far Im in love. Ill probably throw a set on my Stingray when the time comes to change those out. I really like the sound of fresh roundwound strings on a growly, pissed off bass. I play rock mainly, and having a string that can really cut through in a mix and have its own defined character is a big plus for me, especially since I play finger style.

I didn't vote. I use different strings for different basses.

-DR's Lowrider on my 5st Maple neck
-LaBella Nickel on my MIA Jazz
-D'Addario Flatwound on my ABG
-LaBella Black nylon on my "Main" ; 5st fretless
-LaBella Flatwound on my other 5 str Fretless
-LaBella Nickel on my Warmoth "Piezo" (but am still looking for the right string for that one )
-Tomastik Infeld on my URB

LaBella flats on my G&L ASAT.

With these strings I finally found the tone I was looking for. Listen to the Superfly soundtrack, that's what I was going for, and I got it.

They have been on for about two years now and still sound fantastic. I get compliments on my bass and tone quite frequently.

I really can't explain how pleased I am with them.
