What kind of strings do you use?

d'addario exl160. They're nickel rounds. I'm thinking of switching to steel strings once I've depleted my current inventory though.

Rounds, have been using them 99% of my playing career. The other 1% was a set of flats that came on a used bass I bought and I was curious so I played them a few practices until I finally changed them to my round wound norm.

I've recently tried the DR Dragon Skins, which are nice but a little bright for my taste. I have since tried the DR Silver Stars, which are coated Nickel versus the Dragon Skins being coated Steel.

The DR Cool Blue and Black Beauties sets have been a good fit for my 2 basses that have a lot of crisp tones. My Devon DJ5 Rainbow series with Maple/Padauk/Wenge blend body and neck and my Modulus Genesis, with the Graphite providing a lot of crunch.

PWRL - How are the Jazz Flats overall? I started using the AcoustiCore sets on my Carvin AC50 last year. Pricey! The bass had Black Tapewounds when I got it. The TI's got the neck back into a good angle. The nylon core makes them a little flimsy. Ive thought of the J Flats just to get a little bit of string girth back.

Yeah it's kinda weird, then again tb does not reflect your average musician (if there is such a thing). I sometimes feel like i'm the only flats player in a hundred mile radius. Got all kinds of odd comments already...

Personally I would very much like a flats renaissance!

I have TI flats on my Ibanez with DiMarzio P pup. It sounds reaaaally fat and dark. Completely un-slapabble. But it pulls out a vintage P tone better than my two Precisions.

They're a little on the floppy side when you compare them to other strings (like the Chromes, for example), but they have a good amount of snap that other flats don't have. Also, they don't pull so hard on the neck, which is an issue for me because I prefer thinner necks, and the TI's keep them in shape. They have a very responsive tone to them.
They seem to work best with traditional finger style playing, which I more or less do.
I hope this makes sense. I'm still half asleep.

I've tried flats a few times and I'll try em' again, but I always conclude that they are not for me.
