What Mic are you using on your Cab.

If you can find a Audio Technica ATM25 that's what I use all the time. I play in a country/southern rock/classic rock band. Ampeg B100R amp, about 15 years old. ATM25 is not made anymore & turn up once in a while on EBAY. I learned about this mike from a sound guy at a House of Blues show I was playing several years ago. It works real good in my opinion & other people's that have heard it live. Good Luck

I use a BLUE Kickball
Love it !!!

The OP asked about the Sennheiser e609. These seem pretty reasonably priced. I'm thinking of going this way myself. Anyone have experience with the 609?

heath_r_91 seemed to like his.

"I use the Sennheiser e609 silver and I absolutely love it.

Every time I work with another sound man, they always comment on how amazed they were at how amazing my bass sounds with that mic."

I'm really suprised the e609 was not used more w/ how many SM57 are still being used. I did notice Bass is not mentioned in the lit. for the e609. It's looking like I'll have to save a little more and DI till then and get an MD421. My amp just got fixed today, but I have no back up. 3 amps and they all go out at once.

I love the Sennheiser MD421.

Don't like any kick drum, not the AKG112 or the Shure Beta 52. They have a low cut and high end boost to take out the boxyness of the kick and enhance the "click" of the head drum that justs makes them unusable for bass IMO.

The RE-20 is an awesome mic too.
I hsd the RE-20 reccomended to me by Dennis @ sweetwater. That and some of the others mentioned here. Every $50 counts if it don't matter that much. The MD421 seems to be very well liked.

I'm fairly high on Audix. At least as live performance mic's. I use i5's on guitar amps, and OM5's on all my vocals in place of Shure Beta58's. Also have used OM2's, and 3's.

Haven't used any of theirs on bass cabinets though. The D6 definitely would suck in my opinion as it's scooped and 100% a kick drum mic. I'd be curious to try a D4 on a bass cabinet though.

1. A 737 isn't a mic- you can't put it in front of your cab for FOH purposes.

2. If 737's were all about $200-400, as most mics in this thread are, we'd all have them...

;) :p

1) Mics aint the only way to get to the FOH - in fact the OP asked about mics in order to do away with his DI. A better path to a balanced line out than his current DI is a viable alternative to a mic and responsive to his query.

2) There are a lot of things mentioned in this thread that cost more than your arbitrary price range, I see no reason they all gotta be microphones. ;)

But if your budget is $400, it'd be hard to beat a RE20 IMO.

It was a D6, but that's not what Jimmy M was talking about. I'll look it up.

If I had $400 to spend on a mic, I'd get an RE-20. It'll make any instrument, including the voice, sound good anytime, anywhere. Not only will it give you an excellent bass sound both live and recorded, you'll find yourself using it on a lot more than just the bass.
