For the record it's spelled prescription, and 'prescription' is used in the quote. HOWEVER, given the text limit for user titles, it would be unable to fit prescription.
As far as transfer files off an iPod(or any other digital music player that I know of) the reason why it's generally not supported is to prevent people from offloading 10,000 songs to someone else's computer. Apple is trying to curb piracy not endorse it. It's not like it's at all hard to get around the block apple sets up.

I have a 30GB Zen Xtra, and I love it. Very good audio quality, holds plenty of music (24 gigs and ~3400 songs currently on mine), good battery life, and I can change the volume and track without taking it out of my pocket thanks to its buttons being on the side. If I didn't have so much music I'd get a Rio Karma, but that's just because it has a dock with line-out (the Zen's don't have line-out, unfortunately).
Thanks to a major fluke on behalf of Wal-Mart and me finding the very last Zen Xtra in a glass case that's supposed to be only for video games, I paid $10.old_skool said:And then there is the fact that I got mine for $130.
I personally don't own either of these brands, but I've heard really good things about iRiver and Archos .mp3 players.
I used to own a Creative player, but sold it to get my own bass; it was a solid .mp3 player though, no troubles at all.
I also heard that iPods use .mp4 format for the music files, don't know if its true or not

It is. Except it's called .m4a or .aac. But essentially it's the same thing, it's the audio layer of the Mpeg-4 codec.
I have a 40gb ipod, and I like it. I don't LOVE it though, I have some issues:
- NOT ENOUGH BASS. And then you put an EQ setting on which has more bass and it distorts. Stupid. AND you can't set your own EQ settings (that should have been there from Gen 1)
- iTunes. It is useful once it is up and running, but I have set it to make the sound files .mp3 files...much less hassle. And iTunes puts all of your music into 100 random folders named r00 to r99, so to find an actual FILE to transfer somewhere, you have to do a Microsoft WIndows search, and we all know how long that takes. Alternatively you can burn it to a cd using iTunes and then transfer it back to where you want it...still stupid.
- It's true, people hate people wearing white headphones. I need to invest in some better ones anyway.

Unlike most creative users, I didnt buy it because it was cheap, it was the same price as the iPod mini. Its got a great UI, and 5GB over the Mini iPods 4. For me the smaller physical size and cheaper price negated only having 1/4 to 1/2 the storage of what normal mp3 players have. The only bad point seems to be the software, but its completely compatible with Media Player 10, so I havent had to use the software except to format it.

My son and wife each bought themselves Rio Chibas, and an extra 256MB card. They work perfectly, and are really small. Since they only use them during certain activities that normally last a couple hours, there was no need for a player that could hold several thousand songs.

I bought my Creative for the sound. I bought my sister an iPod, had the chance to A/B bith machine, and thought the Creative sounded better to my ears. I did adjust settings to suit my taste, of course, and used the same sennheiser ear buds for both.
I do find that I do not need 30gb of music at a time though, a Rio probably would have worked better for me.

verily, few people 'need' the ability to have their entire music libraries with them at all time. But it sure can be a neat thing to have. I personally really like the idea of having my 40 GB iPod be essentially the mothership, and then having a 512-1GB flash based player for day-to-day use. I would get an iPod shuffle, but I have never really been to big on playlists, which is a necessary component to the whole shuffle thing, afaik. That said I'm hoping that by the time I'm replacing my cell phone it will be with a high quality mp3 player capable phone w/ 256-512 mb of ram. But we'll see.
