what next?

I am building my little home studio. Nothing fancy. Just for fun.
What I need, record 2 mono sources at the same time (2 basses, me and my wife). And the best sound I can get for not too much money.
So far my recording rig consist of:
ME-50B (bypass) I use it to get in my sound card
M-Audio 24/96 sound card
Guitar rig
Adobe Audition 1.5 (I might switch to 2.0 in a near futur)
I use a little behringer mixer for monitoring only.
I use an altec lansing 2.1 system for monitoring and koss head phones.

Now, it doesn't sound that good (I'm sure some people could do great things with what i have, but i can't :))
The bass sound is weak, I think if I buy a better console I could use it to get in the computer and have better preamps.
Also small studio monitor would be nice.

Anything else I could get?
Any recomandation for a nice console that I could use for monitoring and recording?
What about the monitor?

THank you
