Double Bass what preamp for the stat b mic?

hello ,

Currently I play on B stat (nuno purchased), I do not scherlter preamp, I use it with the ART tube and adapter scherlter 48v -> 10v, it works well, but the tube gives a color the sound.

my question that you advise me as preamp, scherlter or something else?

I forgot to say that the preamp to power the mic, 48 v or 10v.

I use a Schertler Stat-B with an Avalon U5 preamp/DI, sounds just fine.

The Stat Pre or the Pre A2 both sound fine.

I mean the Avalon after the old Stat preamp. I've used this pickup since 1999. Great buy.

thank Fabian but I read the data sheet for the Avalon and is talking about the phantom power for microphone?

As far as I know, you have to use the Stat preamp before sending your signal elsewhere. I don't know how is it now, but back then they won't even sell you the pickup without its matching preamp.

you can use it without stat Pre(I did not), personally I use it with an Art Tube, but the tube bothers me, I want a neutral sound.

the new alesis mic tube pre looks interesting, looks like you can mix the tube in from 0 to 100%, lots of clean gain, has phantom power, phase switch, xlr and 1/4" in and out, compact, mono and stereo models, and affordable..... i haven't tried one yet though.

The Stat-B works with the old Raven Labs Blender. But I think the stock Stat pre-amp sounded a bit more uncolored compared to the Raven Labs. Was handy for mixing with other pickups though. If you want to get into mixing it with others you might try the D-Tar Soltice, it's a lot like the Raven Labs and still being made.

good idea the soltice, but the power phantom in 15 v is not more big for the StatB? (i think max 14v for him)

I don't know enough about the max voltage allowed for the Stat-B to advise you on this.

Beware using the Stat-B with a conventional phantom power supply.

With a Stat-B, for Schertler-recommended use the supplied Schertler Stat-series preamp, whichholds a 9 volt battery inside, or you can use the 10-volt "phantom power" in the Schertler Unico amp and skip the preamp.

But most conventional phantom power is supplied over two of the three leads in an XLR connector or a 1/4" TRS plug, and runs at 48-volts. I think this mean there are two questions:

1) will the Stat-B transducer fry with higher voltage, such as the 48-volts off most mixer phantom power input cables? and

2) how to inter-connect the three leads of a standard phantom power cable to the two leads of the Stat-B to make it work?

I suspect we need a Schertler expert to chime in here.

it is possible to use the B Stat with any 48V phantom power, scherlter sells an adapter (I have one) to reduce the 48v to 10 v

the problem of D-TAR Solstice is that its power phatom is 15 v and I think it's too much for the stat B

Pretty sure the OP bought just the pickup only. I think it's the one that was offered in TB Classifieds recently.

I use the Dyn b with a schertler pre amp 3. I originally had a mark 2 pre amp the 2 was quiet but lacked big dynamic. The 3 is very dynamic and with the control over all tone can cancel most of the feedback. It's well worth the match and drives the phantom at 10 volts.
