Being its 2016, I question the accuracy of that stat nowadays............
After almost 14 years of bass playing, I finally got around to getting my first P bass. I opted for a U.S. Fender American Standard Precision V. After a few days, I'm kind of hating this bass. While it's not terrible, it isn't that great either. It's not as deep/clear sounding as my other basses, the neck is appropriate for Major League Baseball, and it doesn't record nearly as well as my other basses. I thought to myself, "Maybe it's a dud?" I went down to Guitar Center and found out my bass is largely representative of how they sound / feel. So, I ask you; why do bass players love P basses so much?
Funny, because in the past, I wouldn't dream of owning any Fender...never even picked one up until late 2014.After almost 14 years of bass playing, I finally got around to getting my first P bass. Let's change it to: the bass that's been used to record far too many songs to count and still rules in the kingdom of pure tone heaven.Being its 2016, I question the accuracy of that stat nowadays............
Because different people like different things.
A G&L with MFD pickups trumps them all.
The neck dive alone makes them unworkable for me. However, a good friend of mine has an old 66 and damn if he can't make that thing rock your socks off, and apparently spending the evening holding the neck up (we've discussed this a lot) is not an issue for him.
The pickup sounds great and is in the right spot. For me it's simply an ergonomics issue. What I want is a Jazz with a P pickup in it, and not that stupid Mark Hoppus model either.
