What pro's use on the road vs in studio

I use a P with flats and a "vintage" nordstrand pickup for recording.

I use a G&L L2000 with rounds when playing live. (Usually neck humbucker + active w/treble boost)

Steve harris uses his first pbass on every album, but I don't think he always takes it on the road

Ya his basses live have the same pups and strings, but there must be some special sound that his studio bass has, I'm trying to find the interview where he was talking about it
