WHAT??? Rickenbacker 4003S!?

Any particular reason why the pickup surround is not in line with the edge of the pickguard? Is the pickup surround installed crooked or is the pickguard cut wrong?
Looks lovely to me...And, don't forget the Guitar Center 4001S failed fiasco with nearly EVERY one of them sporting HORRIBLY crooked off-center pickups, bridges, and pickguards. These inexcusable quality issues were so horrendous that John Hall himself literally quit the RickResource forum when people started questioning how such an expen$ive (and BEAUTIFULLY selected curly maple bodied) instrument could actually be built so haphazardly with no attention to detail. Of course, the customers were blamed, as were the "off angle pictures." He claimed he was being "disrespected," took his ball and went home (to the official Rickenbacker forum, which has been DEAD for seemingly ever due to his actions).
Speaking of being disrespected, it's actually the ever-so-surely decreasing Rick fanbase which has been "disrespected" by offering such ridiculous "quality" for so much money and then complaining that it's the customer's fault for being soooo picky as to expect the pickups to actually line up with the neck. There are only SO many die-hard Rick fans out there (as an owner of 27 of them, I still qualify), but as evidenced by the dearth of activity on ALL the Rick forums, offending all of us who AREN'T fanboys seems to finally be hitting Rick on the bottom line...hence the return of the S model, and the ever increasing amount of special models being sent to Japan that WE can't get here...since we apparently aren't worthy of them according to Mr. Hall. The thing is, however, is that I'm sure the Japanese have the SAME quality concerns with Rickenbacker that we have here but since Mr. Hall doesn't read the Japanese Rick forums he is blissfully unaware and thus happy to give them all the fancy things that we here in the USA have craved for years (i.e., checkerboard binding). As a way of "giving it to those ungrateful disrespecting b*stards," I'm sure Mr. Hall takes utmost comfort in knowing how most of us long-term Rick fans feel about being denied the options we've asked for for DECADES. Such denial is most probably done on purpose...just to p*ss us off. Dangle that carrot.
But, I digress...the pics speak for themselves. Check that alignment...look at that patchwork on the end of the fretboard...look at the gaps visible under the pickguard...all can be yours for almost $4000.
Again...yawn.
Thoroughly awesome! The 4000v63 project is finally complete. Original 1962 truss-rod cover, new RIC Horseshoe, Audere hum-cancelling module and ultra-transparent preamp (prototype, and specifically for the HS p/u) with two concentric potentiometers. Studio silent!!! Knobs from Archipelago Glass out of ebony. Just have to cut the slot in the bridge to simulate the casting sprew removal

And as this an admission, you owe me $50 that I will get....This guy sold me the said Ric without disclosing its miserable history, hence the $50 I had to spend getting it to work....GREAT SELLER

As I explained to you prior to the sale, and since then, the bass I sold you was a completely new bass.....sent to me from RIC after the one I reference above was sent in for warranty work and could not be repaired. The $50 dollars you claim I owe you was a result of repairs that were necessary after you tried to remove the Treble Bezel....without knowing what you were doing....and separated the pickup wires from their soldered locations.
Sorry for the derail, and for airing dirty laundry publicly, but Starmann is flat out lying.

It was one of the defect MF's Infamous Blue Rics, that admittedly at the time I did not know about, and he surely didn't tell me.

What he did not tell you was I found his bass on Craigslist and had barely been I member of TB at the time and did not even look at the Classifieds, let alone know he was a member....You don't see feedback from me to him.
Again, read all his negativity and sarcasm of other members over the years on this forum that "guy n. cognito" has left, and you decide.....However, he still owes me $50 for the repair of the pickup due to his crummy install of the pick up bezel and apparently leaving one wire hanging by a thread..
Without looking at any post history or knowing what's gone on between you two....when you buy a bass and then take it to get repaired, the seller has nothing to do with it. You bought it. Looks like the deal was local. Most issues with a bass are apparent when played, whether it's high frets, static, finish, etc.

Lighters up to anyone still waiting on their 4003s. Ordered a fireglo 11 months ago from POTR and still no sign of a shipment date(ric had estimated delivery "8-12 months" last February when I ordered it). These days MF/GC have been readily in stock w 4000s for months, or at least when I have the nerve to check!
Guy at POTR was nice but was quick to pass the buck to RIC. Maybe they were a bit too eager to take all those preorders..

I waited 9 months for my Jetglo. I originally put a deposit on an S in Dec 2014. Was it worth the wait......I think so.

I got my Fireglo from GC about 4 days after I ordered it july 4th weekend. Even got a 15% discount. Came to 1350.00 total with tax and everything. And no flaws. Its a shame you have to wait that long. I thought the days of Rick backorders and 18 month waits were over. Nice thing about POTR is they check it all out and set it up for you however.
When I ordered my 4003SW they said that the approximate wait time would be nine months. I received it eight months and three weeks after I ordered it.
I just got mine today from POTR. Delivered almost 12 months to the day that I pre ordered. I'd like to make an amendment to my previous post on this thread, POTR delivered me a perfectly set up bass(shout to Chris from the store). It came to me in way better shape than how my previous 4003 arrived from mf. Glad I took the mom and pop route on this...
The bass is not cosmetically 100% but close to it, a few paint imperfections and hints of white streaks around the neck pocket. I'm not gonna OCD about it. Has the dreaded poles not matching up to strings on the neck pick up that people complained about previously. I don't hear a noticeable difference in output on my G string, where this misalignment is most apparent. plugged in through my half stack, there is a noticeable buzz when tone knobs are fully engaged. A lot more than on my jazz or P. Pickup selector switch feels loose and staticky. Other than that, it's a great bass that I look forward to jamming on, esp at the next band practice with the full set up.
