What setup is more logical?

I am going to be pairing an avatar 2x12 (500w @ 4 ohms) with a bill fitzmaurice omni 10 (300w @ 4 ohms). Should i buy a head that can handle around 1000w at 2 ohms? Or would it be more logical to get a rack setup with a pre and power amp?

i really wish i could help. i usually pick one head one cab rigs, or a combo and ext. cab. i would try the Pre and Amp rack setup. seems this would be much more versatile

instead of trying to answer... take a look at the Ohms FAQ sticky (currently reading that in another window) when you have an idea of what these two things:

A) have an amp in mind that you would like to use to run both and

B) have an amp and power amp in mind that you would ike to use to run both.

For example: I have a 600watt amp that powers my 2x10 combo and then I have a power amp that powers my 4x10. Before my 600watter was powering both and I know it was gettin' a lil' stressed doin' that.

No. Not at all.

I would still recommend a pre/power setup. You can do better for you money AND be more versatile that way. Check out the Crown XTi series.

This is the ticket.

Get a preamp, active crossover, and two channel power amp. You can add an EQ later, if you wish.

The active crossover will let you choose a crossover point that sounds best to your ears. It is immune to impedance variations, so you will get optimal performance from it. The two channel power amp will drive the 212 in one channel, and the Omni in the other. Active crossovers have level controls for each channel, so you can balance the two.

I favor QSC power amps (RMX or PLX) because they work well, and don't have issues. I've seen comments about some Crown amps with issues... do your homework before buying.
