Hello guys,

This is my first post here as a member, (I've been lurking around alot to get some perspective on certain amps and basses.), so if my thread was posted in a wrong section of the forum I'll be happy to move it to the correct location.

That being said, I'm currently looking for a new rig. Atm I'm using a peavey tnt 115 which isn't capable of giving me the power I want both during rehearsals and gigs. So I'm upgrading!

I am looking for a versatile amp that can handle the different types of music I play well. My main band is an alternative rock band and I also play stoner. An ampeg svt cl would be a very nice addition to my sound in these styles, but I would also want to play music like Tool or porcupine tree and that's not the svt's cup of tea.

I've tried the Ampeg svt 3 PRO and I liked it, but I've read that it's an underpowerd amp and could give me trouble when I push it to hard.

So please if you guys can give me some advice as where to look in my search for a new rig please tell me.

To sum it up again I'm looking for a powerfull, loud rig. That van handle deep low rock tunes as well as the finer cleaner stuff. So that I can use the amp in more then one genre. Budget is around 1000 €/1300$.

Who says? Just because their bassists don't use them? Gonna change your bass and amp every song to reflect what the original bassists played? ;)

Don't let anyone tell you different...you can play any type of music on any amp. I've done it over and over in my lifetime. If it sounds bad, it ain't the amp's fault. Granted, you will have your likes and dislikes, and you'll buy your gear based on them, but you should always be able to get a good and appropriate sound of any decent gear made, even stuff you hate.

The underpowered rap comes from people not cranking the gain knob hard enough. The indicator light for the gain is unlike most amps in that it doesn't show you that it's clipping. It shows you that you have signal, and you should be lighting it up pretty good. Actually, when setting gain on any amp, I ignore the light altogether and just turn the gain up till I hear distortion, then I back off it slightly. If that point ends up being cranked hard, so be it. The amp will be fine.

Don't know what all's available to you in the EU, but I do like Ampeg ;)
