What should I do?

Hey guys, I bought a LtD stream bass awhile back and never liked the sound it produced. I play in a stoner rock band and the active electronics never did it for me. so I removed the pre amp, wired it vvt but it was weak sauce. I like the idea of filling the pu cavities and re routing them for a pj but not sure how it will turn out. anyone out there have any advice?

Personally I would go with a double P over a P/J if your going to fill it in and re route, what ever you do a series parallel switch will give you a beefier sound.

What size pickups are in it now? If it was me, I'd try to find replacement pickups do what I want and fit before considering filling and re-routing. But if you want to do it as a project, you can use whatever pickups you want. I'd just recommend doing something different -- if you are going to go to the trouble of customizing your bass, you might as well make it custom, and not the same thing everyone else has.

No need to fill and re-route. There is a huge variety of aftermarket pickups available for just about every conceivable form factor. What do your current pickups measure? Got a photo?

sorry to take so long, heres a pic. i was considering putting a music man pu in the bridge cavity and just cutting a new pickguard to cover the neck pu hole. do you think that would work

Ah, that looks a lot like the EMG 35 size, which is a very standard soapbar size. If they measure 1.5" by 3.5", that's what it is.

Lots of choices here - EMG makes a large variety of pickups in that size, obviously, but other choices include Delano SBC, various Nordstrand and Aguilar models, the Lace BassBar 35, some Villex I believe, Bartolini, likely others. Bass Pickups | Preamps | Bartolini | Aguilar | Leo Quan Badass Bridge II is your friend!

Seriously, you should browse the selection at Best Bass Gear. Then, if you still have questions, shoot them an email. They're very customer-focused, and can answer all of your questions.
