What Should I Look For In A Fretless?

I'm considering getting a fretless bass as I'm really starting to get into the fretless soloist playing style, but I really don't know what to look for, I like to play jazzy tunes (Think of Steve Bailey) and a lot of melodic, expressive pieces (Think of Eric Czar and Jonas Hellborg). Some specific things I hope for are: Having good control over the tone (the usual Bass, Mid and Treble), a fair bit of low-end, a nice 'mwah' effect and I hope to get a 6-string, but that might not be possible in the end, and as expected, I prefer to spend as little as possible for a decent instrument.

Carvin LB76 would probably be a good bet. You can sometimes find the fretless versions for well under $500 used.
