What significant things happened in your life in 2013?

- my niece (who was just a baby a few years ago, it seemed...) got married

- my son and I visited my dad (5 hr drive) and proceeded to have a good time riding atvs, and target shooting, and shooting the $***. So thankful that my dad is still in good health

- had a great day of local trap shooting... fun day of shooting clays, with my high school friend, who introduced me to the sport

- my son (who is eleventeen) still thinks I'm cool, still gives me a hug, says "I love you dad"

2013 was pretty good

At the end of 2012, I played a gig with a band I thought was an amusing diversion but nothing more. After that gig, our first, the guitarist quit, so we reconfigured. I switched to upright bass, the drummer switched to guitar, and the singer's childhood best friend became our drummer. It clicked completely, and we played consistently all the way through 2013. It will end someday, but I'm sure enjoying it while it lasts.

Our son graduated from college and still thinks we are OK. He even played a few shows with me. That was a blast, even though he's essentially a pro, and I'm essentially a hack, and he isn't shy about letting me know. That's OK, because I agree with him!

Otherwise, work trudges along like work does, but it pays the bills. I like it well enough and it lets me come and go as I please so long as I get everything done. Can't beat that. My wife is happy with her work, and we are finally renovating our basement into a music room and home office. Life is good for a change. It makes me wonder when it will all change. I sure hope it keeps up.

It has been an interesting year...

I was robbed at gun point outside of my practice space. It was an eye opening experience but nothing to scaring.

I had a complete stranger die in my arms in september. That really bothered me at first but I have put it in to prospective and now I'm alright and I'm not afraid of dying any more.

And to end on a positive note My band has finished recording our first DIY album. Super stoked to get in out in front of people to hear it.

Me too. My 20's went too fast. I have a feeling 40 is gonna pop up on me real quick.

I fear this is well amigo! At least I will have my hair at the next family reunion. I should at least hit 65 with a dome full of beautiful, cascading hair (as far as genetics go). My cousin is trying to shack up asap cuz he is losing his hair line, and he is only two weeks my senior.

Finally, at the age of 29 I decided to complete my 6 months mandatory military service. I was going to get married and it stood in the way.

During my service;

I was not treated as a human being most of the time.

Slept for at most 4 hours a day for 45 days straight and almost lost my mind at some point. I wasn't making any sense when I talked.

Got Meniscal Tears in both of my knees, getting physical thearapy now.

But the worst is, got dumped by the woman I was going to marry in a way a 17 year old wouldn't do. Disgusting... Thinking about it now, I DID dodge a bullet there but the price was paid.

I got into a depression so bad that I was not allowed full magazines during guard duty, only one empty magazine (suicide proof).

I came back as a mess, drunk myself every night for a month.

16 days after I came back, I was offered my dream job.

2 months later, I met this beautiful woman that I really like and have so, sooo much in common.

I learned a valuable lesson this year. No matter what, life goes on. The only important person is you, it is not worth upsetting yourself so that some one else won't get upset.

Oh, I almost forgot: **** *** 2013! :D

Are things more peaceable in Taskim?

I got a sweet paid internship that's heavily music related that I love doing. I also managed to work the internship (a demanding 40+ hour a week full time job) and go to college full time. Came out this semester with a 3.2 GPA so I still have state scholarships as well as institutional scholarships! It was tough, but it's worth it. And I've never felt more proud of myself!

I was very lucky. I discovered i had 3d stage renal cancer accidentally. I had a persistent cough. My wife cajoled me into getting it checked out. Had a chest CT scan to check my heart and lungs. The scan happened to go low enough that an image of the top of my right kidney was visible. This image showed a small tumor on the kidney. An abdominal CT scan revealed the tumor had pretty much taken over the kidney. I had no symptoms like blood in urine or pain. Just a mild, but persistent cough. And no problems with the lungs or heart. The kidney was removed and i may be cancer free. If my wife hadn't been concerned i'm sure i would not have gone to doctor about the cough. I was very lucky.
