What size pick do you use?

the purple dunlop 1.14mm tortex

Same here. The dunlop 1.14 tortex picks are all I use. They're the perfect thickness for me. I don't feel like I can really dig in with thinner picks. They're too floppy and give a thinner sound. They can't move the strings as well as thicker picks are able to. The tortex material is amazing because it doesn't give a snappy plastic sound. It almost seems to give a meatier sound because of the type of plastic that it is.

Dunlop Gator Grip 2.0mm

it's really thick. I like em because they're kinda dull sounding so i can play some smooth sexy sounding basslines without the clankiness in em.

i dunno if its due to bad technique but when i play with anything thiner than a fender heavy pick i start getting this pain in my wrist and thumb. it's not a severe pain but it bugs.. anyone else get this?

See now, I don't get this. When I use a pick it's because I actually want an edge on the tone. If I didn't, I'd be playing fingerstyle. Why use a pick to get "smooth sexy sounding basslines without the clankiness"?

No really. I want to understand. :)

that one. Best sounding pick I have found on a bass, and I used to HATE pick playing with a passion. ;)

i used to hate it too :spit:
now i use it about 20% of the time :smug:

i used to use .5 picks, and even .3 for a while, when i was beginning. I didn't like the feel of plucking the string so hard with a heavy pick, as it was easier to strum with a light pick.

Now, knowing what a bass can put up with, i use 1.0mm Dunlop Nylons. They have good grip, stiff enough to get good attack, but not so thick that you could rip your string out with it.

Happy to help.

ONLY.... ONLY,during my hits for the mob.

Otherwise,I use the one that's the size of Doritos. For bass,of course. Like Sheehan uses.

I'm surprised more bassists aren't into the Lollar picks (aside from actually having to call Lollar to order them). They're quite thick and made of forbon, which provides an excellent gripping surface. Absolutely no give to 'em, so when you strike a string you get a sound right away.
