What songs "get" you?

Now there's an interesting strand...instrumentals that get you! We can interpret lyrics in a myriad of ways, but for nothing but MUSIC to pull on your heart strings..now there's an art.

I'll go for 'The Dream' from David Sanborn's 'Change Of Heart' album. Played it at my dads funeral. To this day, I simply cannot listen to that tune.

I also melt when I hear the outtro from 'Sir Psycho Sexy'. I could listen to that on repeat for days.

A lot of Pearl Jam's music gets that kind of reaction out of me, like Eddie Vedder's soundtrack for "Into The Wild".

Here are a few obscure one that just dig into my emotional skin:

"Invalid Link Removed" - Mr Mister

It's the last track on "Go On", the fine overlooked album that deserved better promotion from the label than it got.

"Tea for One" and "The Way Back Home"- Kevin Gilbert

The first song, from "Thud" is the story of a shy guy who meets the "lady of his dreams". Things don't end well for the shy guy. This was my story in high school. The last song is from his last solo album "Shaming of the True", finished by musician friends after his death. The guitar solo in this song in brilliant and haunting.

"China Lake" and "Born For Love" - from the album Triage by David Baerwald.

Brilliant album, brilliant artist. The album is more political than I usually like. But once you get to know it and the hammer over the head bitterness becomes secondary to your attention, it's a stunning artistic achievement..

I remember reading an interview with Tony where he said the only way he differentiated between the John & Yoko tunes on that album was that he played his Chapman Stick on all the Yoko tunes.

Invalid Link Removedhas always been a song I really felt an emotional reaction to. One of my favorite lyric deliveries ever:

"What good are the makers,
And what good is the make up,
If nothing can make you feel good?"

Another song that gives me chills is Invalid Link Removed... haunting vocals and one of the most thoughtful songs regarding self-identity.

Freebird by Lynnrd Skynnrd, when my bands bass player died of cancer his family asked me to play a song at the cremation, I altered the words to suit the occasion and the person and played it on my accoustic guitar and sang it in front of 100+ people, I have never felt so proud to be doing something that meant a lot to everyone on the day, I still dont know how I played and sang it faultlessly, I practised so many times leading up to the day .
The family were so grateful that they gave me his bass and said I should take over as bass player in the band, a role which I love so much and always remember him when I play .
