I can't explain it, just something about the tones and lyrics, something in those songs, always seems to evoke emotion when I hear them.

I would give a nod to PF's "Mother", but it's been soooo overplayed (IMO) that it just doesn't hit like it used to.

I was actually thinking about this exact question earlier today before seeing this thread, and it really comes down to music I connected with during late high school/early college - that was a time in my life that listening to music was a real outlet for me. Some of thhe slower Pumpkins stuff off of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie, some DMB, and there's other stuff too. Those songs don't have the same effect today, but they do bring back some old thoughts/ect.

Whether sad, happy, pumped up or else, drawing out some kind of raw emotion is the #1 thing I judge music by.

Snuff by Slipknot was nearly impossible for me to hear for a while. When I was in 9th grade, one of my friends hung himself. A bunch of his friends (including me) decided that would be the song we'd remember him by since he loved Slipknot and got a lot of us turned onto it. My mom picked me up early from school when I found out. On the ride home, that song came on the radio and I started choking tears into a mouth full of Burger King French Fries.

Somebody else said his favorite song was I Miss You by Blink 182. A week or so later, our sign language club put on a show where they do the sign language and dance to music. They performed that song. Another tearjerker in context.

Songs like Seize the Day (Avenged Sevenfold) choke me up when I really listen because they make me think. Too many of their songs do that to me
