Hi. I was wondering if you could recommend a suitable set of strings for my Fender Jazz (through body) I just got a set of Fender 8250M's but they are total crap. The taper wound bit on the low E is simply not long enough, throwing my intonation right out!! The strings that came new with the bass were great, does anyone know what these are, or where I can get them? or a similar set? Many thanks in advance!

What strings for a Fender Jazz (USA) Through body please?

Thank you, do you know it the low E has a taperwound end that runs over the bridge saddle? (actually runs over the saddle, not like the fender ones that isn't long enough!)
No, the XL's are a standard type string. I have them on my Fender Jazz right now. I don't like the tapered strings (neck or bridge side). I can't recall about the DR's as I have not used them in a while.
*Actually, the Long Neck DR's are tapered and I recall not digging them.

Regular long-scale D'Addario strings will not fit on a 34" scale string-through-body bridge. If you want to use D'Addario, you'll have to order the extra-long scale.
DR Sunbeams and Hi-Beams fit just fine on a 34" string-through-body bridge, but neither are tapered at all.

Since Fender changed their taperwounds, I have given up for now with taperwounds. I have tried a few regular brands, and my favorite so far are the Rotosound Swing Bass Nickel plated for my string-thru basses. '02 Am Dlx Jazz V & '04 Am Dlx P.
I can only suggest these if your bass is an '02 or newer with the saddles that have the wider grooves for the E and A strings. Prior to to '01 or so, the saddles all had skinny grooves. At least in the Dlx models, I think. That caused a lot of rattling with any of those basses I had with regular strings on them. They really needed taperwound.

i greatly prefer the earlier narrow-groove american standard saddles (they're steel instead of brass, and give finer spacing adjustment).
my '96 P, and my bass player's '99 J and '98 P all perform flawlessly with straight-up ernie ball 45-105 rounds, full-thickness all the way down. the EBs are long enough for the string-through to not be a problem.

+1 great recommendation! That's what I use on my Fender MIM Jazz and they feel great and seem to get better with time ( had them 2 months now and play them three hours a day)
D'Addario Long Scale XL Nickel Wounds are a 'gamble' on my American Standard Precision....sometime they fit, sometimes they don't. I have a set on now and the string just clears the nut before the taper. Your better off taking John's advice and ordering the Extra Long Scale set. DR Strings will work. I used to run the Lo-Riders on my Bass...never had a problem.
My favorite string is the Fender Original 7150's PURE NICKEL . I like the MED Lite gauge
45-65-80-100, or if you like the medium(standard) gauge. 45-65-85-105 these are perfect for that classic 1960's sound. These are not flat wound, but round wound. The original price is expensive $45.99 but you can get them for $22.29 on line or at certain music (GUITAR CENTER) stores. They are the perfect length for Fender. I have received so many complements on the tone of these strings.

I use the Ernie Balls as well. No issues.
And correct about the D'Addario's. Xtra Long Scale is what I have on my bass right now.

Just for the record, D'Addario increased the taper length by approx. 1/2" in 2012, so it shouldn't be a problem any longer.
