What "stuff" do you bring to every gig?

If you play a lot of outdoor and/or windy gigs, bring some of those spring loaded clothes pins to keep sheet music from flying away! I don't read music, but our horn section does and I just happened to have some in my car when we played on a very breezy stage. Saved the day, I tell you... Oh, and to whomever said rolling papers, that was funny!

Not usually necessary, but REAL nice to have if on the road: a spare set of tubes for tube amps

i saw a band play one night, the beat union (great band) and they were opening for a bunch of people (2 of which didnt play half as well), and on top of being english and getting ignored by 3/4 of the crowd, the lead guitarists jcm800 just stops in the middle of the show.

i could tell he wasnt a gear nut, because he had no idea what was going on. luckily, they made it through the song, and one of the other bands let them borrow a head (the same one actually) and all went well from there.

the upside to this story was the the person who lent the spare amp was a girl (all girl band on an all guy tour) and we all got to laugh as he shouted out something to the effect of "yay! she gave me head!"

i can tell they werent the type to have a tech (or even roadies for that matter) and he likely had to borrow an amp for the rest of the tour. if he didnt know how to bias and all that.. how much time does one have on the road to leave an amp at GC for a few hours?

I bring as little as possible.
My bass, strap, chord, folding guitar stand and intellituner and strings in my gig bag.
My Markbass F1 , a speakon cable and power chord in a small bag.
My Avatar 210 neo.

I do have extra cables in my band cable bag but that really is part of the PA equipment, I alos have an extra set of guitar strings and a guitar strap as my old guitard has forgotten both.

Imodium AD is a always in my cable bag, it has saved me numerous times.

Aside from the normal stuff everyone's mentioning here, I bring Immodium in my "gear bag."

Man, you do NOT want to be in the middle of the first set in a long night and start feeling the squirts working their way through your system.:eek::eek:

I've only had to use it once or twice, but I was MIGHTY glad I had it with me. I also have some advil.

It looks like Dr. Jim is the only one smart enough to take a camera.

Sounds like a good idea to me. With a tripod and a decent digital, you could even shoot some video.
I take a camera, but it never seems to get used. :hmm: Here is one thing I keep in my kit.

You can get a roll of 50ct for around $5 bucks at Lowes, Home Depot. Extremely handy and much cheaper than the 5 pack you'd get at GC. :smug:

Besides the bass, amp, speaker, tuner, and keys to the van? Oh, there's the cassette with "Donny Hathaway Live" on one side and the live Aretha Franklin at the Fillmore album (with King Curtis' All-Stars). Can't go wrong listening to Jerry Jemmott and Willie Weeks on the way to a gig!

Spare bass
Spare strings for my bass
Spare guitar strings (and I once sold some to a guitard who broke a lot of strings and never had it together to go to the store BEFORE the gig)
Spares for every cable
An SM-57 microphone (even though I don't sing, it's still come in handy)
DI box
Spare 9VDC adapter
Gerber Multi-tool
Cable ties
Velcro
Adhesive bandages
Sharpie marker
Ball-point pens
Note pad
Drum key
Towels
15' heavy AC extension cord (it's 16x3 with a metal 4-way box on the end)
Spare amp power cable
Spare 12AX7 tube (and I always carried a set of 6CA7's when I had my Music Man HD-130)
Spare tweeter fuse for the Eden cabinets
Gaff tape (NOT duct tape, but real proper gaff tape)
Analgesic (generally VItamin I- Ibuprofen)
Self-evaporating hand sanitizer
Spare 9VDC batteries
Little kit of sockets, crescent wrench, nut drivers, screw drivers and pliers
Soldering iron and solder
Small digital VOM
LED outlet tester
Spare fuses for any amp I own
Mini-Mag light w/spare batteries and lamp

That pretty much covers it. It's been a while since I went through the bag.
