What the hell is Mike Dirnt Doing...

DOnt worry, he only smashes/burns his MIM P, and even then, he try's to put it back together afterwards. He keeps his vintage one's nice.
just saying the word cliche is soooo cliche.
if he wants to do it, let him do it. If you call everything cliche then where will it end? Flat, boring music made by people who are so scared of being dubbed "cliche" that they never do what they enjoy just because a few others have done it before.

Here in Spain we have a group called PPM, very Green Day and Ramones influenced. I saw them in concert once and the bassist went into the moshpit!... the tuners got effed up... at the end he threw the bass down a couple of times real hard... I saw the battery on the stage...
Here's the thing: On the headstock it read "SQUIER". One clue. Second, the bass guitar tech immediately picked it up and observed it carefully.
AND: OK I'm not sure but a Squier with Jazz bass body with active electronics and black pickguard???? Sounds like a revamped bass to me. It sure looks like the bass is fixed after the performances. It's all calculated.
It's all showbiz in the end...
Now as for Tre breaking Mike's Ripper bass...

oh and for the record i dont call everything cliche, but burning your bass or guitar IMO is so cliche in that genre of music, and as far as im concernd most of green days stuff is flat boring music, again just IMO, ymmv
wow we are shiny happy people, lets learn how to love and forget how to hate,by the way i tried to say that you should stop nit picking at what a celebrity does chances are he makes more money than you and can do whatever he wants (except drugs in front of police) with there no being wrong in it. Cliche in punk the amount of guitars being burned that i saw at warped tour was zero zip zilch two years running, and blink 182 isnt the best band there not the worst either but they have there style and it should be respected they are musicians after all.

the whole cliche to be cliche thing was sarcasm, ill use it more blatantly next time.

Ah yes, what an original idea!! Burn (or even smash up) instruments on stage - yeah that's real entertaining..... like why didn't anyone think of this before? 
why go to the theatre(to see the same play) more than once?
why visit a circus more than once?
If we have all seen these things before...why do we enjoy seeing them again?....what is the return value of a guy in makeup on stilts or a actor shouting "MACBETH"...
The honest answer is that there isnt any return value, we just like certain things, no-matter how many times theyve been done.
Why are stage"acts" any different?
Obviously some people feel they need to see something new. But IMHO this is because they didnt like it the first time they saw it.
Dont diss the guy just because hes doing what he likes to do.

Maybe, because those other events involve talent we admire, have different intellectual approaches, or (in the case of the circus) perform amazing feats which we everyday folks cannot do.
I'm not commenting on his bass playing, but this display of "showmanship" seems somewhat AMATEUR and OVERDONE (pun intended) - I often do that flaming thing with my barbeque!! (No talent or imagination required)
i wouldnt call macbeth using much imagination.....neither painting your face. and concidering hes just completed a kickass show he can afford tom do summat the uses no particular skill.
I agree. It don't make a statement anymore. OTOH, I would dearly love to see some guy in an orchestra pour lighter fluid on his DB and flame it in the middle of Wagner's "Ring"!
