what to do for best- hartke

hi all, great forum you have here

i have just purchased a second hartke 4x10xl cab.. as i want to run 8x10xl (if that makes sense..) i am replacing my peavey 410tx as i prefer the hartke sound..

anyway, my original hartke 4x10xl is 400 watts.. i have been using for over a year and love it.. the 4x10xl ive just bought is only rated at 240watts??.. is it worth me swapping two of the drivers over from each cab to give me 320watts per cab? or am i likely to damage the 60 watt drivers??

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

What amp are you running? What is the output rating at 4-ohms?

Hard to say, but the higher-wattage rated speakers might have slightly different specs, and mixing them with the lower ones might cause more harm than good as far as sound is concerned.

Also, if you install lower wattage peakers in the same circuit with higher wattage speakers, you won't be splitting the difference in total watt rating. The lesser speakers will always be the weak link.

I say leave the cabs as they are, likely you won't be over-driving either of the cabs. I used an older 240watt 410XL for years and never had a problem with it.

Leave each cab as is. You won't gain anything from mixing up the drivers.
