What to do with old Peavey stack?

I do NOT want to discuss value, at all, in adherence to forum rules.

So, I stopped gigging some 20 years ago. The 'rona era got me playing again, but I'm not interested in gigging, just jamming at home and maybe hitting some open jam nights for fun.

I have this Peavey NitroBass head, and a 2x10 and a 1x15 (also Peavey). But it is eating up space in the living room and now that I'm 20 years older, with back problems, I can barely move it anymore. Peavey amps won't earn you points on the internet, but it will earn you a living. I have to say, it always served me well.

Like everyone else, I want a lightweight, small, class-D combo for around the house, and maybe a wander out to play with friends or something some day.

Local shops are not too interested in it, since they're all swamped with inventory since everyone had to go back to work.

I'm not real keen on a "local pickup" sale given the unseemly state of society these days. The weight of it would exceed its value for shipping purposes.

I haven't found a taker at a music ministry or an educational charitable donation yet.

Any creative ideas on how to move this stack on to its next home?

Any Guitar Centers around you? I see lots of old heavy gear on their used site, for not much money, but it's a place to safely unload it all.

Maybe you'll get lucky and someone reading this thread is in your area and would be interested.

Otherwise I've got nothing, but best of luck.

Or put an ad on local Craig's list free to good home for new bassist.

You could give a call to a local School of Rock and see if the bass instructor has a student in need of a hand-me-down rig.

Honestly, the local pickup sale is your best option. It's tough to move that type of gear. (I have some in my garage that will probably still be there when I join the heavenly choir.)

There are some NoCal Peavy fans over in the Thunderbird Club. I've posted your post there. Perhaps you'll hear from one of our members. If you were in SoCal, I would be interested.

If local music schools don't want it, perhaps contact local teachers and ask if they have any promising students who might have trouble affording a rig on their own.

I agree with you that Peavey amplification is unfairly unglamorous. Someone just starting out would be served very well by that rig - and probably for a really long time.

If you don't want to move it yourself and not willing to have someone come into your house to haul it out, it's going to stay in your living room. Borrow a dolly and move it to your front porch, list it on Craig's List for $40 or something, you haul. If you give it away, people expect you to deliver and act like they're doing you a favor. Selling it at a low price moves it and the deal is done.

A other vote for posting it on CL. That head is listing on line for over $300. Put a price like $90, cash and carry.

Another option is freecycle.com - a site for people giving stuff away.

I've done Facebook marketplace local pickup stuff at gas stations. Even better would be police stations.
When I sold my Kay M1 upright a few months back and met the buyer in Montgomery, it was in front of the sharrif office.

I would consider rethinking the "local pickup" position. I moved my stack on to some kid for a song who was thrilled to haul it away. Think I'll remember it forever due to the grin it gave him.

Sac has an organization the likes of which I've never seen before: The Library of MusicLandria. I have no idea if they'd pick it up, but they might be interested.

Maybe the local school districts are different in your area - but ours around here always take donations of music gear. Just talk with the band directors in the local middle and high schools, you may be surprised. Free goes a long way.

In a by-gone era, I'd probably post a local for-sale.

But a couple of years ago, someone I know did that and was held at gunpoint while 3 thugs robbed his house, then pistol whipped him as they left. Spent some time in the hospital recovering from that ordeal. I don't think they ever caught them either, not that they try anymore.

World's just gone nuts today.

But good ideas. The amp and cabs are clean as a whistle, don't even smell funny. Church gigs and a weekly blues jam was all I used it for, and about 90% of the time, just the 2x10 did the job.

If I donate it, would like to at least get a tax deduction, or just sell it for some reasonable price.

+1 on throwing in on Craigslist FOR CHEAP and bidding adieu.

Swallow your pride, try not to think about what you paid for it and just dump it. It's 2023 and a rig that heavy is gonna be tough to move. It is what it is.

A buddy of mine has been trying to move his massive SWR rig for a while... and he's still got it.

Get what you can for it now.

Go see a couple local punk or whatever battle of the bands shows and offer it to an underequiped whippersnapper. I did this with an old stack I had just for karma.
