As most of you know, it's a union rule that the bass player must be the coolest person in the band. The trick is to know what's cool in a given situation.
cowboy boots... I was raised on a working cattle ranch, That is the most comfortable shoe for me. IF I am dressed up, my boots will be a custom made pair (my grandpa is friends with a semi retired boot maker, so he takes care of me)
blue jeans. Not overly faded, and clean... Refer to the afore mentioned childhood on a working cattle ranch
Most of the gigs I get are biker events, car shows, or in the bars where I used to work . usually it is a nice T shirt (dark in color, clean and unfaded). Sometimes with a music theme, or a bike run shirt (at a biker event, NEVER wear a shirt for that event...wear one from a past event... shows an interest and that you are following events. That alone will gain you points with the crowd)

Just something plain and smart. A shirt and some plain chinos or something of the sort. I'd like it if my band dressed, as Thelonious Monk says, as sharp as possible. Suits look good on an R&B/Soul band. I'd never wear a fedora on stage, as many musicians insist on. It's usually a case of this: Link Removed
