What type of wood is this?

I agree with JazzyJames. It sure looks like alder a lot to me. I do a lot of woodworking and the grain is very similiar to the alder that I've used for furniture and turnings. Alder is a very stable light wood. A little soft though. Watch out on bumping it against anything hard.
 
is that the natural color or is it stained?

That is all natural baby, no stain. I know the fretboard is Chechen, but the body is definitely not. Chechen is more brown and has a distinct grain pattern.

Also, the hue and color of the actual wood changes slightly in different lighting situations and when viewing it from different angles. This might help narrow it down.
