What Used Amplification Would You Get from GC for $600

Ampeg PF500 head. New. It will do the SVT thing nicely, is reasonably small and light and the prices have come down all over recently. I think GC has them at $349 at the moment.
Cab- a good 112 or 210 for the time being. The Ampeg PF cabs are nice and the head will mount up. Portable. He can always add on later.

Hey all, (I am listening to the Growlers while writing this.)
I thought I would report back. First of all, thanks for all the input. All of it helped me be educated and to make my final decision.
There were a few events that shaped the decision. First of all, we couldn't get to the decision until last night. His band is releasing an EP and is doing a release concert this Friday. We decided to fly up to see him perform as a celebration for me passing my certification exam. I didn't want to go through another 2 year cycle of giving him an amp and never being able to see him perform with it, so I had to narrow my search down to the Salt Lake Valley area where we would fly in and get a rental car to drive up.
I realized a 500 watt amp would always under power anything it drove. Also a 4x10 would cost extra to heavy ship and I couldn't find one in the SLC area. I found an Ampeg 800w amp the south end of the area and an ampeg 2x10 cab on the north end. This gives him the full capacity of his first cab right at the first. If he ever needs to upgrade, he will get double the watts and full capacity of both cabs.
I will pick them up on Wed. and test them in store, travel up to a town called Logan, Thursday night, where he has another concert. I will be able to hear him with it for the first time live. Then we will travel up to his college town for the debut on Friday. Thanks to the person who pointed out you don't need a warranty for cabs. I didn't think of that. I got a 3 yr warranty on the amp. With the warranty payback money offset, it came to $490ish.
If I were to give out prizes, I guess I would give it first to 9Thumbs cause he got closest with the Ampeg line-up and bonus points for the picture. Honorary prizes would go to the 2x10 crowd. The other brands mentioned were good, but my price and location restrictions kept me from pulling the trigger on those:
I like the feature that you can screw the amp onto the cabinet top board. When done using, you can then just flip the top so now the handle is on top. The 4 clamps on top keep it all shut. Genius move on their part.
