My dream bass was a Warwick Corvette 6 string. At the beginning of my bass bingeing and purging thanks to this site, I did get a 5 string version. It sounded awesome, and I really liked the close string spacing, but it was so darn heavy. TB opened my eyes to the world of lightweight basses...

I'm curious what everyone's dream bass was when they first started playing bass. Make sure to tell what year it was and what kind of music you were playing/wanting to play.
I started out with dreams of being a grunge rocker in 1992. I was 13. Though my first bass was a crappy Series 10 P-Bass copy, I drooled over every 1960's Jazz Bass I saw. I've had 70's Jazz's since then, but nothing in the 60's...yet.
Fender Precision, thanks to Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. That was many moons ago, and still have not bought one!!
I started playing in a Rush/Led Zeppelin cover band in 1981, so my first bass was a cheap Ric copy (el degas) because that was Geddy Lee's bass. Two years later I upgraded to a BC Rich Mockingbird in 1983. In 1986 I bought a Spector-Kramer NS-2 for $2000 CAN and it has been my only bass for 21 years. I'm gasing for a Fender Jazz ri as a backup bass though.
I started out with an ugly as sin Hamer Explorer-shaped bass, which in retrospect was actually pretty nice. What I always said that I needed was an Alembic just like Stanley, and a big ol' Hamer 12 string bass just like Tom Petersson.
Now that I think about it, the Warmoth that's my #1 now is, in a way, a weird sorta combo of the 2. Go figure.

Me too. I wanted a blue sparkle P-bass with a mirror pickguard. Now I have my Stingrays and J-basses. Still no Precision,though. But that's next on the list after I'll get my 20th ann. Stingray5 I have on order. I think it's gonna be a AV '57 P-bass. That'd be nice. And I also want a "second generation" P-bass in two-color sunburst. It's a shame that the Fender CS stopped making those. Oh, well....
