What was your first amp (old guys only) Pt 2

I've posted previously, but I recall in the 60's (66 maybe) my friend and I took the the train from Westfield, NJ to NYC with his grandad. He took us to Manny's and set a price limit. Larry decided on a Guild Thunderbass piggyback with 2x12's. He used it with his Fender Precision. I don't recall what he had previously, but the Guildreally sounded nice. This isn't it, but it was this model.

A brand new 1968 Super Reverb. I was playing lead guitar in a blues band. We cut a plywood piece and put it on the back, up to an inch before the chassis.

in 1973, I was playing guitar at "The Swing" in North Hollywood. When I turned it on, the rectifier melted down and it closed the club for the entire night. I had it replaced the next day.

We still got paid. Thank you local 47. LOL

Kustom Kasino 200. My first 4x10, but this was a combo amp so it was heavy a heck! It was *awful* - I think it was really suppose to be a keyboard amp, but it came with my first bass (Gibson EB1), bought together for $250 used (and possibly hot) from a private party in 1976. I made good use of that POS amp, and I have no idea what I did with it. Traded it in? Sold it to someone? Left it at a gig on purpose?

You missed the Hammond B-3 and Leslie we had to haul up two flights of stairs through a narrow doorway to get set up
and can't see our bloody knuckles. It was a wonder we could even play it hurt so bad.

Hmmm, 1974 or 75 ,Vox combo amp, I think it was 50 watts, 1 x15. Had a switch on the back that supposedly gave you an "E" to tune to. Swapped that for a Ampeg portaflex, 1 x 15, swapped that for a Bassman 50 with a 2 x 15 cabinet, swapped for (starting to see a pattern here?) a blue sparkle Kustom 200 with 2 -2 x 15 cabs. Traded that in an Ampeg SVT Roadie revolt device with 2(!) 8 x 10 cabs which were stolen in the late 80s...moved on to a GK 800 RB with 1 x15 cab on the bottom, and a JBL top with a pair of 8s and a titanium horn driver. THAT was the sound with the 5-string Steinberger. Have a 400RB with a Peavey 4x10 +horn TVX cab, or a Peavey Databass combo now, as the mood moves me.

the stereo in my bedroom and the stereo in my friend's den where we rehearsed. I believe my first 'real' amp (and it was expensive too, did a lot of paper route for it) was one of those brown early-80ties Aria Locos known all the world over as the worst bass amps in the universe. Somehow I ended up with a Roland Super Cube 100 which was my first decent amp and which I did many many gigs with.

In 1964 I was 13 years old and played guitar for 2 years. My older brother played drums in a popular band in Connecticut and his bass player bought a new Gibson EBO and a black Kustom 200 amp. So My brother fronted me $375 and I bought his 1961 sunburst Fender Jazz Bass and a Fender Bassman piggyback amp with a 2-12 cabinet.

1st was a small ampeg with a single ten, don't remember the modle number, second was an old vox Essex bass, third was a 70's vintage Kustom tuck and roll stack fifth was a preamp section from a peavey tko combo run through a Crown powerbase 500 into a marshall 2/15 fifth was after I moved out to vegas and had sold all my gear, and had to start over again a Hartke kickback with a twelve, after that G/K backline 500 into a Matching 4/10, next was an acoustic B450, And now the hartke LH500 and the 810xl which I don't see nyself parting ways with for a while!

First amp I ever bought was an old 410 Fender Bassman, don't remember the year, you know the one. At first it seemed to sound all right with my Aria Hofner copy but eventually I realized it just sounded like crap for bass, so I traded it to a guitar player for a 66 Fender Jazz Bass, which I still have. Took a long time to save up for another amp, but I had the bass!

My first was a Kustom 15" combo. 100 watts I think. Black Tolex, not tuck/roll. No tweeter (obviously). I tried to search for the model and couldn't find it. I know Kustom had another brand with Tolex in the '70s called Kasino, but I distinctly remember it had a Kustom badge on it. It would be great if anyone can remember the model and send a link or photo. I sold it to a friend who got a settlement in an accident, who then gave it to his brother. They got my first RIC, too. My heart was too big! But it let me get my first car.

A 35w Bogder: an amp hand-wired by my father from combining the schematics of a Fender and a Bogan
PA amp, followed a year or so later by a 50w Bogder, both powering a very solid 2x15 cab made by a retired
cabinetmaker who attended the same church. The cool thing was the taps for 4, 8, and 16 ohms -- all tube
power (this was the mid-sixties) and plenty loud enough for the time.

Got to give my dad and Mr. Sutton some props. I still have the Bogder II and the cab, although the cab stays at home now.
