What was your first amp (old guys only) Pt 2

My first was from an Alden's catalog back in 1971 - do not even know the brand name. It had a small watt head and a cab (speaker size unknown) that stood about 3 feet tall(?). Along with a Tiesco violin bass with 1/2" string action at the 7th fret! Lived in a really tiny northern Wisconsin town and closest big city that had an actual music store was about 90 miles away.

Eventually went to a big city with my dad and he bought me a Gibson bass amp. It had the power amp inside the 2x15" cabinet, and a separate little preamp that sat on top of the cab. Kind of an aqua-sparkle grill cloth.

Correction - that Gibson amp was a Magnum 800 with 8x12's.

My first bass amp was the AMES bass amp brand with an 8X10 cabinet that I played for 3 years then an Acoustic 370 setup, the folded horn setup I never really liked. I played thru that for about a year, then I bought 2 ALEMBIC 15" bass cabs running an Alembic preamp and a Great American Sound stereo power amp that I used for about 4 years. Now I use a TC Electronics 450 watt head and an Audiokinesis 15" cab with horn. Lightweight with lots of power.

Yes, I has one of these and a 'Clockwork Concubine' flanger that plugged into the DIN socket. The cab was a HH 2x15" ported thing that weighed a ton.

My first amp was an RCA combination 45rpm record player and radio that ran on tubes. My first electric guitar was an old Silvertone acoustic guitar with a 4" speaker taped into the sound hole. I ran wires from the speaker terminals into the connector where the phono cartridge fed the amp. I then discovered feedback, distortion, and disapproval expressed by my parents. I was hooked.

My first amp was a cheap off-brand 15W thing from Sears that would break up horribly if you even looked at "4" on the volume knob. My first "real" amp was a Peavey TNT 130, which now sits in storage, along with my first bass.

First amp was a Peavey TNT 100. With the old metal knobs. Used it for a few years. Later added a Peavey MK III Bass head… the combo had a speaker cable coming up out of the cab into the amp… it had enough slack that I could use the internal speaker with a different head. Very clever. Not many combos can do that…

My parents got it used, one of the aluminum stripes was damaged and discolored. My folks ran duct tape over both and I didn't notice it for about 2 years. I probably didn't even need more amp than that back then… but GAS hit me pretty early.

A Fender Bassman that was purchased new, in the late summer of 1965.

then a Bassman100 into a custom made 2x10 box , I was way ahead of my time hehe

Fender Bassman 100. I sold it back in 1985 for $100. Wish I had it back!

First amp was a Silvertone guitar/amp combo, with the amp built into the case (yeah, THAT one!). Then some kind of Kent (maybe?) then in about '67 I got a 63 Bandmaster. The music store had painted it black and replaced the grill cloth with a silver (non Fender) cloth, so it would look more "modern" (Jeez!). I still have it.

Mid sixties Supro Thunderbolt all tube, 15" open back. A lower price alternative to the 4x10 Bassman back then.

They are back in production and available at Sweetwater.

A Bogen CHB-50 tube PA head like this one through a pair of Lafayette 12" 3-way hi-fi speakers. Blew it all up rather quickly and bought a Peavey TNT like the one above that Scottkarch posted.

My first "real" amp was a Plush 3 x 15 stack like the one on the left but in red sparkle. That was a tube head and it sounded awesome.

I guess I was 'fortunate' (for back in the day)... I worked at Gino's, during the school year, when I was 15... so when I turned 16 (1978) I purchased a new Ric & Peavey 'stack'... a 200watt head w/2- 2x15 cabs! (this pic has shown up in a few other threads)

found this pic- online- not mine- but same thing...

... note the (high-tech) 'PA' head (under the towel) & wooden 'mic stands'... was PA poor after shootin my wad on the bass equip, BUT WHATS MORE IMPORTANT- I ASK??

... I'm older (52) and fatter now... and I'm playing Fender basses thru Markbass & Aguilars... so I guess I'm still fortunate!!
