What was your first amp (old guys only)

Mine was a Standel followed shortly by a by a brand new Ampeg B-15N back in 1966. They were both very good bass amps in their day.

Mine was an old Aus 'Vase Bassman 120' -120w all tube! Dad bought it for me for $250 in '73-I was 10y.o. & he said- as I was just starting to play in bands, that this amp & cab( a box with 1x12" & 1 x 15" in it) would last me & I wouldnt have to get another in a couple of years-this would be powerful enough -he said & was right!!!
It lasted me up until it was stolen in Melbourne in '83!

Believe it or not, my first bass rig was a Sears Twin 12 guitar amp, with an EBO bass. Sounded like crap and it did'nt take long to blow the Jensens. I then bought a Fender Bassman 50 head used, and a 2x12 Fender bassman cab that had JBL's. Never should have let that rig go ( sigh).

A Kustom 100 Amp with the roll-n-tuck, silver sparlke covering, and a no-name 1 x 12 cabinet that I blew out in like a week.

1979: A Mashal Lead and Bass 100W (trannie), through a pirate Marshal 4 X 12. I made a pair of 2 X 12s with leatherette upholstery out of them. While I was on holiday in 87 they were stolen from my friends gig and he swapped the head for a Cassette player which I didn't want and quit after 6 months.

You know, I never really thought about it till now. He had a drug habit and couldn't pay the mortgage right around then too. Hmmmmmmm

I bought a Harmony 1-15" combo when I was 14 (1968). My next amo was a Kustom 200 w/3-15" cabinet, sparkle red!!! Man, I wish I still had that just for it's looks... finally settled on an SVT with 2 cabinets, 300 watts of tube power roaring through 16-10" speakers!! I kept that until I was about 25 or so. I attribute my severe tinnitus today to those days. We played a lot of Uriah Heep, Queen, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple...

Hiwatt half stack I inherited from my brother in 75 along with a Lab Series 15" combo. wish I still had those along with the 69 Jazz bass he gave me, if for nothing other than re-sale value today.....LMAO

1966-67 Fender Bassman Blackface 2x12. I bought it second hand in 1969. I had it until (2) years ago. I didn't play it in years and my son said he wasn't interested. So I sold it. Well now my sons decided he wants to play so I sold some other vintage Kustom stuff and bought him an Ashdown Mag C210 -300. The Ashdown is great, but I'm kicking myself in the a@# over the Fender since I have a renewed interest in playing bass again. Lucky I still have my Plush 1060-S which sounded equally good. Now I need to get another bass, since he is getting tired of sharing his with me.

The exact years are hazy but so was yesterday 1966 or 67 Bassman w 2x15 - around 73 went to a Kustom 200 w 2x15 - maybe 76/77 went with an Acoustic 150b w 2x15s , still have both , only use the 2x15s but the 15s have been replaced with EVs -

A Marshall super bass 100 head and 2 4x12 Maershall cabinets.This was in 1974.
It was cool if you liked distortion. I didn't.
I traded it for a Ampeg V4-B and 2 2-15 cabinets.
From there it was a series of SVT's.

An Acoustic Head...250, I believe and a Cerwin Vega Cabinet...must of had a 15" speaker in a huge ported cabinet...that was back in 1980...then a small Acoustic 100 combo.

A 1964 Mongomery Ward bass amp (it looked suspiciously like a Supro). It had a 15" Jensen spkr, open back, and amp-in-the-back configuration (actually on the bottom) with two knobs; volume and tone. I had to talk my parents into buying it since I'd spent all my saved-up paper route money on a used Harmony bass (true story!). Sold it later and bought a used blonde Fender Bassman with two 12 cab for $125. Wish I still had both of them.

I started playing in 1968. My first amp was a used white Fender Bassman. I think it was 35 watts. It had a presence control. Later that year I bought new Guild Quantum Bass Amp 200watts with A cabinet that had 2x15 JBL D140`s. Eventually replaced that with an SVT with two 8x10 cabinets. I think thats why I have a bad back and some hearing loss today.

I played guitar first so I used my guitar amp at low volume. So my first bass amp was a Standel 2x15" like the one you see in pictures of Duck Dunn using with Booker T. and the MG's.

I had an early 70's Fender Solid State Bassman. It had 3-12" speakers. Not much on tone, but it had volume! At the age of 14 all I wanted was volume.

I bet no one had a 1969-1970 Univox 1 X 15 with a small solid state head. I think I paid around $100 brand new.
