What was your first amp (old guys only)

ok, I'm not old (22), but my first amp was a beat up early 70's Vox 125 head (needing valves) which I got for about £250 (seems like a ripoff now...) - still got it, one day I may get it going...

First amp in 1966 a Kalamazoo Bass 30 . 30 watts all tube 2-10's.

Second amp in 68 a Sunn 200S 60 watts (tube) 2-15's.

Wish i still had the sunn it's the Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead sound.

First amp was a Dynacord Bass-King. I don't remember how it sounded.
My first gig rig was: Marshall Super Bass 100w (early 70's) with 4x12 x2 cabinets. Sounded great! I had it for many years. And I played my old Fender P '63. I wish I had it today :bawl:

...with the 2x15 cabinet it came with. Tubely and phat---funny, it seemed plenty loud back in the day...now, I run a couple of orders of magnitude more power...and no one fusses about it. Wish I still had that head.

First amp was a guitar amp. Like one of the very earliest posters to this thread, it was a Sears Silvertone combo with an 8" speaker. My daddy bought it for me soon after I'd paid $40.00 of my own hard-earned paper route money, to a guy in the neighborhood, for a Kay dual pup guitar. I think the year was 1964... and it would also pick-up a radio station... WBAP out of Dallas, I seem to recall..

BTW... that guy used my $40 to help pay for a beautiful white Mosrite guitar, and a Fender Twin-Reverb amp. As you might already have imagined, his band played a lot of surfer music... Ventures, Beach Boys, Surfaris, Jan & Dean, etc... in Texas!

First bass amp was a Kustom 200 with 3 x 15" cabinet... both decked-out in fabulous red sparkle... bought this beast in 1971, slightly used in perfect condition. ;)

FIRST - 1981 to 1985
1981 Peavey 400 Bass (Mark III) and Peavey 215 cab (on casters) with a white Peavey T40 bass (can't find pic of this anymore). Bought in new, in 1981 for $1,300. Regret having sold it.

2000 - PRESENT
Now I have a 1978 Peavey Mark III Bass and 215 cab (also on casters) again. ;) With an Alvarez A5EB. (got back into playing back in 2000)

The first Peavey amp/cab rig looked like my current one here. (minus the 1x18 sub and Alvarez)

Uh.... Wow! Thanks for this thread!

My first amp was a FARFISA... The first "F" and last "A" were missing so it just said "ARFIS" on it... I thought it was an ARFIS for years until someone told me there was no such company...

:p

Played my KINGSTON $20 bass through it until I could step up to an Elektra Jazz Bass copy... think that one cost me a whopping $50-75...

:bassist:

My 1st amp was a  Kustom 200, rolled and pleated silver metalflake naugahyde. Sucker had 200 watt head tied to a single cab with 2 15" JBL speakers. That boy would really push some air! I still have it but the amp's pretty much shot as well as the speakers. It still looks boss, though. Oh yeah, I bought it in 1967 when I was 16 for around $800. :D

I always enjoy hearing others admit to thinking things that are amusingly cute and totally wrong as I have many times because of some misunderstood word or missing data somehow. :smug:
