In 1969 my Mom bought me this combo package from a Speigel catalog. $159.00 for both. I no longer have the original amp or bass, but I do have a bass like that.

my first two were a Peavey TNT 40 and a Peavey TKO 65 (which I still have, btw); I used to stack the two and run a Y-cord into each with all the treble rolled off on the bottom and all the bass rolled off on the top (a la Entwistle and Sheehan, or so I dreamed)

First bass amp was a Silvertone, but all tube 4 6L6, cabinet was some cheap thing with 2 Radio Shack 15s. Moved to a Sunn 200 s bottom with JBL D140s, then goat another 200s bottom, then got a Marshall Super Bass, otherwise known as a Plexi.... Have been trying to get that sound back ever since. Could clear a room (in a good way of course.... I think)

My first was a SS Realistic (yes Radio Shack) Bass combo with a 15" speaker. I'd crank it and got what I thought was a great fuzz tone......I shudder to think what my parents had to endure.....

Now that my girlfriend is playing bass her first bass amp was an AI Contra, but then she's not an old guy...

And I still have it...and gig with it! I got it in 1986 (used), and the only thing I've done is add an AVATAR B210 NEO extension cab. So now I'm running 300 watts into a 2 ohm load and filling up every venue I play.

And no, it's not for sale!

I used a 50's Tweed Fender Deluxe, for guitar and bass. It had 2 volume controls, and one tone control that sort of worked.

My FIRST amp was an old Decca gtr amp that was probably all of about 10 watts, "solid state", with liek a single 8" speaker, in a huge box. Bought it from a gtr player down the street for $10. My first "real" bass amp was a PV Musician head atop a Musicman single 15" cab with an Altec, I wanna say 418 driver inside. Been thru an amp or twenty since those days....

Wow, there are sure a lot of replies to this thread already. Maybe someday I'll finish reading them all

But anyway, if anybody cares, my first amp was a silverface Bassman head. I built my own cab, just bare plywood (never bothered to cover it), with 2x15 EV SROs. And get this; it was open back.

Hey, what did I know back then? I had no money, the defining principle was cheap. I bought the Bassman with birthday money, the SROs I got on a 50% off blowout sale. I had no plans or anything for the cab; I just built a box that looked like it was the right size.

Amazing how many garages, basements, and finally gigs that rig saw me through.

Peavey Basic 40 I got in '84. Along with my first bass, a Peavey T-20. The amp used to cut out all the time, and wasn't loud enough to play with anyone but myself. What pieces of crap they were!

God, I wish I still had them...

My first amp was a Fender 2-15 bassman cabinet with a Plush 400 tube head (1973). How many of you remember Plush Amplifiers?

I just found one in a store by me and it started me to thinkin.Its all tube, 4 power tubes so it should be over 100 watts into 4 ohms, and I normally sit on my amp, this would be luxurious. Now I wonder how it will sound into my Goliath III jr.

I started playing when I had my second amp. It was a tube head (rated 300W) and a 6-10 cab (before 10's could handle bass very well). It had some blue material on the front and was purchased from Wards in 1968 for $199.00. It actually lasted quite a few years. Not very deep tho'.
