What was your first amp (old guys only)

First bass amp was a Laney Linebacker 100w head through 2x15'' Session cabs. Sold it to the rhythm guitarist and moved on to a Peavey Combo 300 w/ 15'' Black Widow. Verrry heavy amp.

Later played through an Orange and then a SWR and now use Ashdown ABM 450w 210T

I have a really shameful one. A combo acoustic/electric Peavey amp, 20 watts I played on that for about 2 years guys. Now I have the Behringer 1200, crap by your standards, gold for mine. I've been playing about 3 years now.

First amp period was a 50 watt Yamaha guitar amp I got in 1981. I took up bass two years later, and my first bass amp was a Peavey TKO 65. Didn't sell it until about a year ago.

A 1964 Fender Champ Amp which was bought new back when I was 14.

I should probably add that I first started out on guitar, thus the Champ Amp.

My first bass amp I bought new was an Acoustic solid state, with the 2x15 cabinet back in the early 70's.

My first amp was a McIntosh MC-2105. With a pair of EV-SRO 15" speakers. They lasted till I got my first 5-string bass, at which point I blew a cone clear across the room (just the first of many such experiences).

My first amp was a Jordan amp by Danelectro I think. It had a 15" speaker about 40-50 watts and looked like a a portable dishwasher .. the controls were on the top of the amp and was made out of cardboard. Boy was I a bad ass with that mutha. Anybody remember these about 1968 vintage , I also had a Coral bass two lipstick pickups..I still got a picture of it. My parents bought me these for my burfday.

I'm not sure what point you are making, but I'll tell you how I came to acquire it: I have been set artist & poster artist for the local community theatre group for 20-some years now. I spotted this Dynaco being used as a prop (it was supposed to be a radio). I told the director I'd provide a more "radio-ish" device for them (in the event, a Radio Shack 8-track player my brother had given me years before) in exchange for the Dynaco. Deal done, and I took it home, retubed it, replaced the power caps, and off we went. Wonderful sound, with connections for the old "Hafler effect" (the Dynaco was designed by Hafler): a pair of speaker posts for a center rear speaker that was connected to the + leads of the L and R speakers. My youngest son now has his eyes on it. Me, I've got a solid state receiver with a remote.

I think the point he was making had to do with the fact that most Dynaco power amps came as a kit. They had to be assembled. I had one that was assembled by someone who later went on to design stuff for NASA or something like that. I sold it to a band I was with to run monitors, left the band and got less than 10% of what i paid as a settlement. That came to $7.50

My first amp was a 1960's Silvertone. It had an amp head that would fit into a space at the bottom of the back side of the cab. The cab was 6x10. I wish I still had that amp. What the hell ever happened to it?

Actually, I knew that it was a kit, which made the remark a little off the wall. I DID assemble an EICO integrated amp and an FM tuner, both of which I bought for $1at a fund raiser for my kids' school. The amp probably had 3+ watts. I never used it for a bass amp, though.

The neat thing about Dynacos, and the Silvertone Twin Twelve I own, is that they are "tube amp 101." Any reasonably competent repair person can figure them out pretty quickly.

Jordan 1x15 About 100 watts made sometime in the 70"s I'd guess. The power light never worked and the sound was probably good for lead or rhythm but not for bass. it had a bright normal and dark switch and nothing was really good for bass dark was too dark bright was too brught and normal was very flat and dead sounding.

My first amp was an Aims I bought in 1978. Two channels, tube, with a 1x15 cabinet. Used it for a couple years until I scored an old Sunn Concert. Then I used it for the Taurus pedals I started using around that time. Never have seen another Aims amp since.

rental department some 30 years ago... A Gibson "Thor".
Well the price was right - $50. 100 watt w/2 10's. I still
own the stupid thing. I tried to sell it recently for $100
in the "thrifties" in the paper- no takers...Some lookie-loos
though with "Gibson made amps??"

a Carvin something or other. can't remember the model but it was 300 watts i think and a 15" speaker. all i remember was i had to use about quarter power cuz it overpowered the guitar players. was a good amp but not very adjustable in my opinion.

My first amp was during the late '70s. It was a turquoise tuck & roll Kustom 100watt head (may have been 60watts) with the matching 2x15 enlosure. I remember it sounded like dogpiss.

Peavey Basic 40, I thought it so loud back then, wow how my ears have taken a beating. I used to turn it all the way up and pluck my open E and A strings together and it sounded exactly like a helicopter!!I think it had something to do with the "super ferrite" pick-up in my Fury!!

Hi to all the lowest of lows! My first post, been lurking a bit and seems like a good bunch. Well, until now. Figured this was a good thread to introduce myself.

Started out with a Microfret semi-hollow body bass in '71 playing through the stereo. That didn't hold up too well. Stereo not bass! Still have it tho company is long defunct, I think. Around '72-3 got my '65 p and a Musicman HD-130 with an Acoustic 301 cab. Added a JBL 15" custom-made cab a couple of years later. Got a jazz in the early '80's. Still use this rig, mostly just the 15. Still sounds pretty good, might spring for some 12's one of these days.
