What was your first amp (old guys only)

im not an old guy sorry. but my first amp is pretty damn old my dad gave it to me it was his. its a peavey TKO65 combo amp. its about 20 years old at least, and i actually still use it at the moment, until i save up enough for a cab and head setup.

First amp:

Fender '65 Blackface Bassman 50, into a crap DIY 15" cab.
Wonderful sounding amp. So-and-so sounding cab.

Still every now and then I think about it and wish that I hadn't sold it. That Fender was heavy and not very loud, but the tone was sooo sweet and satisfying.

A Traynor YBA-4 tube combo w/a 15 in it.

It has 2 channels w/2 inputs each, and i replaced the old 15" with a Gauss 15" leftover from a PA cab at one point when it finally crapped out.

It had the habit of shutting down in the midst of a song; probably some sort of thermal protection. Waiting a few minutes & pressing the little red button on the back seemd to re-set it, at least for a couple more songs! ;)

Still have it, although I think there are only 17 or 18 watts left of it's original 50. It still weighs a lot, though.

My first amp was from Sears. It was a Global guitar amp, 5 watts with 8" speaker, volume, tone, and tremolo. My first guitar was also a Global, Les Paul copy, from the same place, the same year. Got em both for xmas. A year later I switched to bass, that was 26 years ago, been playing bass ever since, but still keep a 6 string and 12 string acoustic around to plunk on.

I had a 1972 Fender Bassman 50 "piggyback" with a 2-15 cabinet. Loved that thing. Played through the high school's Fender Bassman 10 (same vintage) for our "stage band" gigs.

I picked up a used Ampeg B-15N in about 76 and my idiot brother who started playing bass after I did wrecked the Bassman 50.

My first "amp" was a pair or Dynaco 60's going through a home made preamp based on a Fender circuit sketched out on a napkin by a mentor and built by my friend. I had (2) 2x15 cabs - one with 2 Altec's, one with a pair of CTS's. I wound up trading the Dynaco's (and the inherent "ghosts in the machine" in the homemade pre - we were in junior high after all...) for a 1968 Sunn 1000S guitar head, which I still have to this day. It's been renovated by the same friend (who has become quite the expert at this sort of thing), is fully functional and still kicking major ass!

The speakers are long gone, but I still use the amp as one of my spares whenever I'm feeling my oats (it's got to weigh 70 lbs min). Usually it's an old GK 800RB.

Whenever it come out though, my guitar player drools to no end.....nothing compares to the smell of 30+ year old Tolex that's been heated by a set of (4) 6550's! :cool:

Gibson Thor I think (two tens, Tube) Unsolicited Honorable mentions: Kalamazoo with the pre-amp that folds out of the back on a panel with the controls. Harmony with a racing strip on it and blew fuses every other day, a Kustom tuck and roll 200 head with 18" folded horn cab with an EV in it.
Acoustic 150 head and Acoustic single 18 front facing vented cabinet.

Damn I was young.
