Ah yes, the Bass 30. It's actually got 2 Jensen 10's in a sealed box. I got this one and a Kay 720 1x15 30 Watt tube amp from a guy at a flea market for $100. They are both good for jamming with acoustic guitars or recording, but that's about all the volume they can muster. Good thumpy sound though.

....Thanks Chris, That was the one. Never thought about recording with it but it had the tone. Like a B15 (I still have my fliptop) - not loud enough for rock gigs but golden tone. Well, maybe not quite as good as a B15.

Well I'm not an old guy but I bought an old guys peavey stack for my first amp above a practice amp. It was a 700 watt head with a 4x12 cab. I was 15 and didn't know what kind of amp it was beyond a peavey even then. It was SS I believe and the guy had owned it since the early 80s (wasnt original owner either). It did not sound good but nothing I could have played on in those days would have. I played it for almost 3 years and sold it. I played it at least 4 times a week for an uncountable number of hours. Never once serviced it or even cleaned it out. Which goes without saying, it never broke. I'd prolly pay an unreasonable ammount of money to have it back now, I have no logical reason why.

A 15" combo that had been chopped to make a separate head and speaker cab. I never really understood just why the previous owner lopped it in half. Maybe he had to justify that new table saw... I'm 95% sure this was a Kalamazoo. Used gear was pretty hard to come by in the Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the early '70's, you see.

It came with an extra-groovy Jensen 2x15" extension cab. This thing was blue, sparkley, and trapezoid shaped (wider at the bottom than the top, of course). It weighed about seven and a half tons, from what I remember.

Here's the "Six Degrees of Separation" tie-in: The Jensen was occasionally piddled on by the dog of our drummer, who was the little brother of Steve Mariucci, the ex-SF 49ers and current Detriot Lions coach.

Never thought about taking a picture and posting it...so I will try. My older post told about the model and the age. I still use her as a practice amp. I have a 1st floor appartment in a victorian home and she is in my livingroom / studio room :).

Let me know if anyone has seen one like this or still has theirs. I heard once upon a time the talking heads or tubes toured with this... and they hung a mic on the inside of the shield to run thru the PA. The speaker is mounted at an angle so you can hear while the sound also gets kicked out front. Note the casters on the side! Enjoy:)

Mine was an old Tube Fender Bassman 100 Head and a Fender Bassman 212 cabinet. 200 watts of pure rattle and mush....lol. But I wish I still had it. Sold it to get a cool Kustom 200...it had a prettier light. My first real/working amp was a new Peavey Combo 300 that my Dad bought new for me in 1987 at Werliens Music in New Orleans.

If 42 years old qualifies as an old guy ;) ...

My 1st rig was a Kustom (150?) black tuck-n-roll head with a matching 2x12 (?) cabinet. Really crappy sound - but I was a beginner then. The head had one or two lighted blue buttons (one was for power, I think).

I replaced it with an Acoustic 371 rig, then added an Acoustic 4x12 ported PA cabinet, and ran the 301 (1x18 folded horn enclosure) and the 4x12 together with the 370 head (which I still have!). I used to nail people to the wall with that wall of bass sound. That combination had to compete with 2 marshal 4x12 stacks, each pley by a guitarist who only wanted to hear guitar. Bet you never heard of that before!

Those were the days.

I still have my solid state Kustom 150 - both backlit blue buttons still work (one for power, one for polarity!). And you're right - I was also a beginner and it sounded loud but crappy! Never play it now - it is just a keepsake (like my old EB-0!).
