What was your first amp (old guys only)

My first amp was part of a package sold by Montgomery-Wards (a department store chain) back in the mid 70's. It was a Marlboro and, as best I can recall, it was a 15" combo and probably wasn't more than 50 watts. I don't even think the bass guitar had a brandname on it.

My first bass amp was a Magnatone head with a 4x10 cabinet, and all old is new again. I gave it to my dad. He used it til he passed on, along with my first bass, a Kent! I couldn't believe he played gigs with that set up for nearly 25 years! I gave him the gear because I found a Fender jazz bass and Bassman amp for $500! Boy I wish I'd put those 2 in a closet til now!!! Will of spkrwill

I think it was in 74 or 75, I had a fender combo with maybe a 12" speaker, hmm,, was it a "little" bassman? Blue writing on it. I blew many a tube on that little dude

WOW!! this is a REALLY old thread. Mine was an ampeg V4-B and the 2x15 cab with EVs in it, incredible rig. Oh yea... it cost $400 in great shape back in '79. First axe was a Ric 4001, wish i could go back and un-sell that gear!

Blackface Bassman (50) with a Fender 2x15 cabinet. It put out a lot of sound for its day!

Starting in 1964...

1. Stadium practice amp, 1-6" speaker, then Magnatone M-7 ...
2. Traded for Gibson Atlas IV, not much of an upgrade...
3. 1965 Fender Bassman....first amp I was really happy with

My first amp was a Traynor Bassmate combo that had a 15" with a tube head which I guess was about 50-watts. Great amp wish I still owned it. Then I decided to go big so I bought a Marshall 100-watt bass head. I'm guessing it was a late 60's amp and it had 4x12" speaker cab. Pretty loud and over my head considering my playing ability at the time.

First real amp that I actually paid out money for was a '66 Fender Bassman 50 blackface with two 1-15 cabs. paid like 300 bucks.
