What was your first amp (old guys only)

An Acoustic 126 combo that I found in the garbage. The speakers looked like someone had kicked them in so I chucked the whole cabinet and saved just the head portion. I built a wood box to house my new head and painted it pink. 125 ss watts, sounded pretty good. Still have it though it's pretty much a back up now.

First amp: Marlboro 1x10 combo guitar amp (I just needed to hear the damn thing).

First REAL amp: A hot pink Webb 300 (?) watt head with a homemade (not by me) hot pink 2x15 cab with JBL's. I wish I still had the Webb.

First amp: Sears Silverton (I got with the matching bass)
First REAL amp: Bassman 10 bought new in '75.

Pretty much the same thing. My first bass amp was a Sears Silvertone with an open-back 15. My first usable amp was a Fender Bassman 135, which I wish I still had.

1967--Vox Essex Bass ss amp with 2-12s which I kept blowing til I replaced them with Jensen Lifetimes
1969--Peavey Dynabass ss"300 watt" head and 2-15 cab--replaced the speakers with JBL D-140Fs out of a homemade cab I got from a classmate--Still have 1 of them in a Peavey 1-15 cab
1975--traded a PA column for an Ampeg SB-12 which I still have--currently using Acoustic Image Focus R with a LDS cab for upright and B-15R with my Fender Jazz

My neighbor let me borrow his Fender Twin (yeah, yeah, I know, but it was free!). Then I got my own - a Crate Combo.
Still have it but have huge gas for either an Acoustic Image or a Phil Jones Briefcase.

I first got a Fender bassman with 2 12's in 1966, to be followed shortly by another one. And as our band got better (and louder), then a couple of Fender Dual Showman with 2 15's each and later,any other amp I could get my hands on so I could keep up with my Brother's lead guitar(including using Fender Twin Reverbs plugged into home made cabs with bass speakers in them). Then... in 1970 I got my first real amps...(and got rid of carrying around and setting up all those Fenders)...An Acoustic 360 head with two 361 powered speaker cabinets . I later added an extension cabinet with 212's to each Acoustic speaker cabinet as stage monitors so I could more accurately gauge my volume(other wise I was usually playing much louder than I thought). This setup up was ideal for touring...rugged,(though heavy, they had great wheels and handles and were fairly easily moved unless you encountered stairs !!!) simple to set up,as loud as you needed, and reliable-and there was no way:scowl: my Brother, the lead guitarist, was ever going to bury me again!! Peace...DAcat...

A Haynes Bass King II.........

200 watts, 2-12"s, 2 channels with 2 inputs each side, made by American Amplifier Corp.........
Bought it new from Sam Goody in the old uncovered Garden State Plaza in May of 1964 and used it with a Wurlitzer 140B electric piano, then a Harmony bass........
The reason I went for it was my dad didn't feel like driving all over the state, and the on-off power switch was a push button that had a big red pilot light....... didn't even care what it sounded like.........
At least I pay attention to specs and sound now.........lol

2. Later 70's: Uprgraded to a Fender Tremolux head into a Silvertone 2x12 cab.
3. 1980: Hit the big time with a Yamaha B50 50 watt, 1x15 bass combo.

A Gibson Minuteman combo w/a 12. That and my Silvertone 3 p/u special got me through to my first actual bass amp. My drug dealer friend lent me the $$$ for a V4B and a Traynor folded horn cab w/ a Cerwin Vega 18" and 2-8"s. Then I began my assualt on midwestern discos (I'll give ya Boogie oogie oogie!!!)

Wow, going back almost 20 years, hmmmm. It was a generic 60 watt combo amp with a 1x10 speaker. I got it in a pawn shop in North Miami, FL a week before my 13th birthday along with an "El-Cheapo"(the name on the headstock read "Criuse created by Vai") short scale bass I later converted into a "lefty"(hence my screen-name) in wood shop class.
