What was your first bass guitar?

Those Arias were WAYYYY better instruments than their price tags back then. Wish I'd kept mine and gotten another. Now they're starting to be recognized for how good they really are-as are most of those vintage Japanese instruments-and prices are climbing rapidly.

My first bass was a Raven EB-0 copy I got in 1979. I now play a Gibson SG bass and a variety of Fender Precisions and Jazzes. I don't miss the Raven .

My first bass was a P bass, from somewhere between '73 and '75. It still makes me cringe thinking about it all these years later lol. My current main bass is my STR 5 string fretless, which is the best bass I've ever played (the one on the right, here)

The first bass I bought was an early/mid eighties MIJ Fender P in LPB with a maple 'board and had a '75 blk/mple Fen Jazz for 'backup'. Twenty years and 80some basses later, after trying everything out there under $2500, I'm back to a P and J that each get two sets per gig..

1st was a 90s Ibanez p bass(don't know actual model). Current primary is a Rick 4004L. I can't imagine that changing for a long time if ever.

My first bass was a cheap P-bass copy made by Main Street Music. It was a very dark purple color, and I wore the frets so badly they go down to the wood. My main bass these days is my trusty Bronco bass with the GFS Lil Killer in it.

Actually, the first couple of basses I played weren't mine. I sorta learned to play on a lefty friend's Rickenbacker (given the date, a 4001). I got involved in a band a few years later, and was the substitute bass player, as well as the sound guy, roadie, and general go-fer. I played the other guys bass; some Japanese P-Bass copy, and it was not a lefty. Although actually being in the band was a blast, playing wrong handed wasn't an experience I would care to repeat. My first bass was a '78 lefty P-Bass, that I bought from a friend in 1988. It's a very good one, with the Jazz width neck; I still have it (of course), along with 18 others. The bass I tend to play most often these days , though, is my '73 Rick 4001. For me, Ricks fit like a glove, and, since I only play for fun anymore, I'm not worried about how it sits in the mix, cuts through the mix, or how road-worthy it is (I know; please don't start..). Don't know if it's because a 4001 was the first bass I ever played; but, I just like to play it a little more than my others. What kind of stuff do I play? 50s-60s Rock; Rockabilly; "vintage" Country; Blues; and a little Jazz...

That thing is SWEET! The one on the right. Not to "offend" the other guy, but I love the white whit the f-hole variation...

First Bass was/is a First Act. It weighs about a ton and sounds like hell. I didn't know until I played a show with someone else's how bad it really is. Also Had an Old Peavy PA head and Laney cab that's bigger than my truck lol.
I've only been playing 4 months but I practice ALOT and get better every day. Going to be playing my 3rd and 4th shows this Halloween Weekend.
This girl is getting an Aria bass and Hartke head and cab this week so excited! That thing practically plays itself!
I play Rock / Metal.. Kinda want to smash the First Act at a show....

My first bass was a 1997 Peavey Fury (P-Bass copy with a J-style neck).

Today, I tend to use my '66 Precision and Custom Shop Pino Palladino Precision the most out of my collection.

My first was a used green Vox Phantom for about $75 in 1973- it lasted about 6 months. Current primary bass is a fretless Carvin LB75 I ordered in 2000. There was a lot of crap, and a lot of really nice ones, in between.

current bass is a new/demo brubaker brute mjx-4 - love it!

1st: '92, Applause by Ovation, short scale ABG, black & beautiful. Made all the usual string experiments - flats, tapes, back to bronze. Great little bass, used in Church and Studio. (If you haven't mic'd an ABG for studio recording...DO IT!) Traded it in when I joined my first rock band for a Vantage P/J in '96 which is still my #1 bass today.
