Since I retired, I finally have more time to pursue my interests, so I finally purchased a new Sire U5 late last Autumn. I came to realize that a short scale Bass was more suited to my short fingers and arthritic hands. I just sold the SX on Craigslist a couple weeks ago for my original purchase price, so it definitely served me well.

I came to realize that a short scale Bass was more suited to my short fingers and arthritic hands. I just sold the SX on Craigslist a couple weeks ago for my original purchase price, so it definitely served me well.
My first 2 basses were both Ibanez:

My first bass was a new black Westone from the 80's, purchased at local music store. I was 13 years old when I got it in X-mas of '86. My parents were not convinced I would stick with bass, so I had to save up half of the cost for the Westone and Gorilla amp. They paid the other half. Fender basses were way too expensive back then. I sold the Westone after I bought a new Spector NS-2, in '91. Talk about a major upgrade... going from Westone to Spector was like going from a Chevette to a Corvette.
Lotus P copy. Weighed a metric tonne. Got it and a little DOD combo amp at a pawn shop for $100CAD. Can’t remember the year... maybe 2005.
My first was a Cortez P-bass copy back in 1978. It was sold in a yard sale in '89 or '90. The neck was wrecked.
My first bass was a piece-of-crap Gibson back in the 70's. The neck was terrible and it sounded like mud, but I was only playing it because I had injured my hand in a motorcycle crash, and forming chords on the guitar was too painful. After a few months, I was back on guitar for 45 years or so until I bought a Ibanez Mikro on a whim. That got me started on bass again and I am really enjoying it!

Jason Lyrebird bought in 1973 and still with me today...
Peavey T-40. It's the bass I used to learn bass on. After a year I traded it in on a brand new Gibson Victory, which I still have 40 years later.
I guess me and the Vic were just meant to be together. I've been through many other basses but always come back to this one.
I started with an Ibanez RD300.
I remember playing it and wondering why my friends bass was more comfy to play. Turns out I like body contours on a bass.
I gave it to a beginning bassist who kept it for a decade and mailed it back to me a couple years ago. I then gave it to another beginning bassist who is still playing it.
