What Was Your First Musical Instrument?

Cornet in 4th grade. French Horn in 7th grade. Acoustic guitar for 10 years until I started bass in the late 70’s.
Yep.. It opened up a whole new world for accordion players at a time when rock music was really starting to come alive...
I rebelled quite strongly, and dad bought me a Mustang bass,(my first, blue with the racing stripes), from the shop where I took lessons, not THAT long ago...
When I was about 7 or 8, my Dad and I went to the music store, to pick up some sheet music. He bought me one of these. I mastered it and played it until the weld broke.

I tried violin. We had a very nice 19th century French instrument (I S**t you not, it may have been a Villaume) that had been my Grandma’s. I sucked and never felt at home on it. Later, I played trombone a year or two. That, I actually did like, but failed to stick with it. Just recently I picked up an OK used trombone and am getting back into it. It’s fun, but challenging! Pretty much anyone can make musical sounds quickly on the electric bass; that’s not true for the horn.
I hate to say this but was accordion.
I just saw this and the first post I see is yours. Interesting because I, like you, started on accordion. My dad still gigs with his at 80 years old. His theory was that since he had a bunch of them around the house I would learn about tempo, reading music, things like that. He wasn't completely wrong in that it did get me interested in playing music.
My tenure on accordion faded pretty rapidly when I realized none of the musicians I liked featured the accordion.
The Violin was pushed on me around the age of seven and that was a bad idea , plus my teacher was a alcoholic . Next the guitar , but only one lesson and didn't even know how to tune the thing . Next came the bass and I have never looked back . That instrument has taken me on an interesting ride , travel , money , fun , relationships and a whole lotta G.A.S. !...........did get around to playing guitar thirteen years ago .

Bass. But it was a progression.

My buddy used to rock the bass clarinet. Those things put out some serious low end.
Mine was piano, clarinet, trombone, baritone horn, Fender Bass (that was how it was notated in the sheet music back in the day).
