What was your "missing puzzle piece" pedal to finalize your FX-board?

I'm just curious. I've wanted to try an LS2 with my setup for a while now. Curious to know what the advantages are. Besides line selecting of course. And blending. Is that mainly why?

By the way, and not trying to be irritating, despite my intent to simplify I find that compression in some form is a big deal to me, and a litte bit of dirt, and no baked-in mid cuts. I recently discovered that this ridicuous plastic Ibanez guitar compressor pedal a friend gave me (a 1990s CP-5 "Soundtank") which I'd tried and rejected for guitar since it attenuated some highs and created some hard-to-get-rid-of low flab, totally rocks for my particular bass tone target. It's on all the time, which is a good thing, since I can keep it on top of my amp so that I don't break it by trying to activate it with my foot...or looking at it.

I haven't played with the entire board having the PPB at that level yet. Just pulled it from my little recording board and haven't messed with it.

Cali76CB was a game changer. I agree with whoever said that you feel a little naked not playing with some kind of compressor. I've bee through a few. Either too hot, to noisy, too colored, too tweaky (to dial in something useful). I really use very little, fx-wise. The cali and a pddi and I'm set. So maybe it's Two pedals to complete the puzzle, or maybe it's two pedals is the complete puzzle...

Guys, if there's a thread in the Effects forum asking about what completed your pedalboard and your response is "getting rid of my pedals," it's going to go over as well as someone asking "how can I improve my bass playing?" and responding "quit because my band's better without a bassist in it."

It's not helpful, doesn't honestly address the question in the OP, and we've got a clearly written rule against it.

2 years into effects and still feel like a newbie.....I even started a thread a few weeks ago expressing my frustration (wish I could take that one back).

But I switched things up and used a Wounded Paw Expression / Blender pedal that I bought off a fellow TB / L.E.F member....a must for me now

This is another pedalboard that I debated not posting. It's a small one that never leaves the house. It's mostly a Palmer pocket bass amp DI. It started as a zoom B1on. You know, to have a headphone out iPhone-in to practice. I guess I'm picky about the digitized zoom sound. So I got the Palmer and a one-controls blender to bring back some original tone. - so the blender was the game changer.

Have you tried one of the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone variants? "Tube tone" can mean a lot of things, but it definitely fits the bill if you mean compression with a lower gain tube drive.

My board is always changing, but the Two Notes Le Bass preamp was the first pedal that I can think of where playing without it wasn't an option. Having the clean and dirt channels and the ability to combine them made that box an essential tool for tone shaping for me. I think the TC Spectracomp compressor is in that realm too, although I think I need to get into editing my own tone prints before I'll be 100% on board with that pedal, and I'm still kind of Jonesing for a regular solid analog compressor.

My funk band has essentially just broken up, leaving me with a roots rock/Americana project and some straight rock cover where I don't need a lot of effects, mainly just low octave here and there. I'm stripping back the board to remove the temptation of kicking on effects in unnecessary places and focusing on getting a really solid, strong PBass/flatwound tone. Spectracomp > MXR Bass Octave > Le Bass > Moog Boost. I might replace the MXR with the 3 Leaf Octabrve, but overall I'm set until I get a band that requires more effects.
