What was your very first bass guitar?

Mine was a second-hand beat up Yamaha BB-300 precision bass that would never stay in tune because the tuning key on the 'G' string was bent.

'82 Jetglo Ric 4003.

It must have been finished out on a late afternoon before a holiday because I had a few issues with it: Wavy Grovers that rattled, dead spots on neck, weak neck pickup and intonation struggles. I never could get where I wanted to go with it, so I traded it for a new P bass a few months later. (I still own the P).

I first played my dad's late-80s Epiphone Rock Bass, one with all black hardware.

The first that was *mine* was a Douglas WVEB my dad got me in middle school. It was a viola style bass (probably from the same factory or something, nearly identical to the Epiphone model) from Rondo music. That was a fun one to have for a while, but I got rid of it a few years later in a partial trade for my first real amp.

Geez, how many threads are you going to start in a single day--are you trying to set a record or something?

Anyway: I was given a used Gomez pure maple monstrosity. I have no idea what year it was manufactured: before the late 1980's, for sure. It was heavy and could not be set up correctly, and yet it served me well enough to learn with until I was able to buy a real bass.

Gibson EB-0. Terrible sounding bass that was heavy and kind of awkward to play.

'78 Peavey T-40 ...... I was young. I didn't know how much it weighed - didn't care. And out of all them knobs and switches. I pretty much left it on one setting. I bought another v nice one 20 years later to replace it ..... HATED IT - sold it quickly.

Mine was a Kent . Dark Cherry Burst with a chrome pickguard. I replaced with a Gibson EB-0 and loved it. Compared to the Kent it was a wonderful bass.

I moved on from the EB-0 to a Fender Jazz and, have been happy for the past 55 years. I guess good/crappy is all in your perspective

My first was a 2008 Squier Affinity Jazz Bass that came in a starter pack from that era.

I donated it to my local school of the arts earlier this year after almost 16 years of ownership. Now the teenage students there are playing it and loving it the way I did when I was a teenager.

A used Ibanez X-Series P/J black with white binding. Really good playing instrument, I probably should have held onto it. But by the late 90's the Explorer body style was patently uncool

I bought my very first bass used at Sam Ash in 1988. I don't remember much about it except it was red with a rosewood board, had P/J pickups, and got stolen from my apartment about two weeks after I got it.

The next bass I bought was a black Squier P that I had for years.
