What Washburn Bass Do You Own (Database)?

I've been trying to figure that out for a while (what bass do I own) actually; it's not very clear for my model, apparently. I think I've narrowed it down to SB-40 or B-40, or maybe even Vulture. I'd like to join the club and maybe even figure out what my model is. So far I've figured out the year -1981- based on the serial no (811308). I'll see if this works for posting pictures (I'm also new to this forum):

You right here are on our official database list thread, always interesting to look at. I am posting you+your bass on it.

OK, what do you have.? You have a 1981 B-40 (passive). The back little switch was evidently changed to a switch from the knob that was originally there. Also you have only one elec cavity---a B-40. You will see you front strap attachment is on the underside of the top horn. Some were at the tip and some where your's is. The other models you mentioned are quite different.

Thank you for joining us. You will find that we here actually know much more than Washburn itself on their basses (especially since all records prior to 1987 were destroyed). We have some real experts here you'll find nowhere..I really mean nowhere..else. Go on over to the regular club thread and say hi, that you are #105 and have a nice B-40. Please let us know what the back switch does now. The front one should be pick-up selection. Can you also post the pictures there?---we get most of our traffic there. Glad to have you, Douglas!

Thanks MEKer - I noticed right away that you and others on this forum were much more knowledgeable than anyone else. I gave up on the Washburn official sites after a couple tries with no response at all. :) I really appreciate your insight on my model. I'll head over to the regular club and post pics. Looks like I need a cooler handle than just my name, too...

Oh, and also, the back switch doesn't seem to do anything, at least as far as I can tell. It's a mod that predates my ownership.

You got a nice pair of basses, I also own an Force 4 like yours. You're right about the year of your basses, they were built in 2002 that was the introduction year for that two models. I always been attracted but the MB40, how do you compare the MB40 to the Force 4? Would you like to join the Washburn Bass Club?

Wow! That's nice, this thread is now more active than the real Washburn club one. Welcome Pravus , I am glad that you share the fact that you own a nice MB-5 as a second bass (is better than be third one:D). Go on the Washburn Bass Club and look at this post where Razman share a video of his MB-5 played by a nice dude who played his bass in a GC store, it sound real nice and surely yours sound like Razman one. I own an Axxess XS-5 that share same electronics as the Force ABT 105, the MB-5 and the XB-500 1994 and I found that this basses is one of the best kept secrecy of last century. About the production year of your bass, you're right, it's an 1992, in the 90's Washburn use the decade and the year number in their serial but, in the 80's they only used the last digit or sometimes the decade and year. In the new century, they used 0 for 2000 to 2009 followed by the year and since 2010 they used 1 followed by the fabrication year. I hope to read you on the Club thread and share your MB-5 experience with Razman who also one an Force ABT 105.

Thanks, but really I just have to just pay a little attention to it, hope some owners take a look and correct me if I goof up on a SN or something. And it is just cool to see our list of Washburn basses like this.!

My new favorite (and only active) bass is this RB4000 I picked up a few weeks ago off Craigslist. It's now my numero uno.

When I saw the price ($150 including a harshell case) and the tell-tale signs of a neck-thru design I had to check it out. Sure enough, it was a neck-thru and string-thru-body design. It already had flats on it and played great. That was the easiest purchasing decision I ever had to make. It's now my number one and the more I play it the more I like it. Nothing but good things to say about my Washburn.
