What Washburn Bass Do You Own (Database)?

My new favorite (and only active) bass is this RB4000 I picked up a few weeks ago off Craigslist. It's now my numero uno.

View attachment 676688

When I saw the price ($150 including a harshell case) and the tell-tale signs of a neck-thru design I had to check it out. Sure enough, it was a neck-thru and string-thru-body design. It already had flats on it and played great. That was the easiest purchasing decision I ever had to make. It's now my number one and the more I play it the more I like it. Nothing but good things to say about my Washburn.
Good evening Broham,

Thanks to let us know about your nice RB-4000, MEKer, the "Keys Keeper" will surely contact you on this thread later tonight as we only came to live in the evening here. I also own an RB-4000 but mine was more a rescue than your's that look like new old stock, it's pristine! I don't know why the RB-4000 are so low priced on the market but it's good for us. I get mine for 215$ USD and I had to put a new original bridge as the guy had change the bridge for a crapy one and I refinished the whole body because it was full of scratches and nicks. even the pot knobs was replace with chromed one and until now I sill miss two ones to be completely conform to the original specs. I put some Ernie Ball coated round wound on and it give nice results. the previous owner with his bridge have stringed it on the bridge and as I change to the original bridge I stringed the bass true body and it got a real nice sustain. I hope you'll enjoy your Washburn for a long times and don't hesitate to give other models a try. You also could join our Washburn bass fan club on this link

Heya Broham------Good to see someone showing some discovered appreciation for Washburn--the most under-estimated of great basses! Works to our advantage since the prices stay affordable for everyone. RB4000------sweet!

I'll be glad to give you a Club number and get your bass up on the database listing. Just give me the word!

AHA Pmc bass! Glad you found this thread and let us know you have a Washie! Is this your first Washburn? So many models over the last 30-35 years that as you come to know them (from this club) you may find yourself cruisng and looking for them. Washies get under your skin for sure.

Like Broham above, would be happy to have you with us as a numbered Washburn Club member. Please let me know and I'll have you posted in no time.

Wow...that looks amazing. The finish on the face of my RB is oxidized. I was thinking of refinishing it, but I'm wary of messing up the electronics and I wasn't sure what kind of finishing products to use. Yours came out great.

97 different models so far

NOTE:
1. Some of you own some fine Washburn Guitars. This list will, however, focus on basses.
2. If you know the model series but not the actual model number, please list it anyway and we'll get to the actual name for you.. I will list them in a similar manner. You might consider posting pics to see if we can identify the exact model. Lots of experts here.

Hello again MEK!! Are there any notations as to the Brass Circle inlays? They were different (and more collectible IIRC)
Good to hear from you, iriegnome...........I posted this some time ago in response to a query about brass circle inlays. Here it is again for you. Hope it is what you were looking for. Pretty simple really.

"BRASS RING POSITION DOTS
The brass circles were marks of Washburn's "higher" quality instruments.

Look at the B-20 Stage basses (including B-20-8 and the B-20 II ): unusual shape meant to stand out, superb "extra" craftsmanship, brass circles, neck-thru (the only stepped neck-thru I know of in our vintage basses other than the B-40EQ). They were the pièce de la résistance for them in 1980 when they arrived on the scene.
The lower cost B-5 Stage bass: bolt-on, plastic dots.
You'll find that brass circles appeared ONLY on B-20 and 20-8 basses........no other basses have them that I can find. Evidently Washburn decided the brass circles would be the status symbol of guitars mostly it and only B-20 Stage models as far as bass guitars.

Look at the A series guitars:
A-5 is bolt on, plastic dots.....
A-10 is set neck, plastic dots, 2 dbl pups, 4 pots and toggle.....
A-15 is set-neck, strat pups, plastic dots, 3 pots and slide switch....
A-20 is neck-thru, brass circles, 2 dbl pups, 4 pots and toggle.
All "A" models came with whammy (tremelo) config if desired--"V" models of each)such as A-5V, A-10V, etc., and if Kahler whammy was used it was designated as an, for example, A-20K. So gradating upward thru the A series guitars to, finally, the brass circles on the A-20.

More Guitars:
Ravens + Hawks---plastic dots
vs
Falcons---available in both plastic dot or brass circles
Eagles---brass circles

Brass rings says "Look at this! It is our best stuff!"

It was probably me that asked, but it is really cool info to know
Yeah, I enjoy investigating and digging out little bits of information like that also. Hope all is well with you!

The brass rings never came back though as a mark of excellence. The expensive guitars, as years rolled on, never got brass rings. The B-80,90+100's basses did not. The very spendy Stephens Extended cut-a-ways (SEC) guitars: EC-29+EC-36, rare, did not. The REALLY expensive Mouradians did not.
The Eagle guitars, oddly enough, only had the brass rings through 1980, in 1981 they went to the MOP Eagle shape (some say a clever adaptation of the "W" in Washburn as well, for a double meaning) position markers.

99 different models so far

NOTE:

I am looking to buy back my AB-32 prototype that was resold thru Elderly music. They won't give me any info on who bought it. But the serial number was 01040001. From April of 2001
Good luck trying to find it. Can Elderly call the buyer and ask if he wants to sell? Although they will probably be told he'd already have it up for sale if he wanted to sell it.
