is a prototype, than I have a series version…

S/N 812591 - should be a SB40, right?
Bought it new in 1983 at a local shop in Berlin. Still here, my oldest bass. I had to borrow the money for the case from my girlfriend, so I decided to keep her as well.

It has a brass box in the electric cavity, with the pots soldered on some sort of board.

Here is my MB-4 with EMG w/ BQC preamp, Graftec Tusq, kickass ultralights and bridge. I added a battery box (lost the cover back long ago). The satin finish that it came with has turned shiny from years of playing.

In fact it‘s a B-40. Only built in 81/82. Pretty rare bird. Consider yourself happy. Differences to SB-40 and its successor Force-40 (had both of them) are:
- Passive
- 4 pots
- Default P instead of Reverse P
- Pickup position. Bridge PU is much closer to the bridge
- „old style“ bridge
- Wooden cavity cover. The one from the SB-40 is made of aluminum, the one from the Force-40 is made of plastic

Just an addition: this bass in fretless was played by Bakithi Kumalo on Paul Simon‘s iconic Graceland album

U.S. Music Corp. U.S.A. (previous owner of the Washburn tradename) produced many iconic bass instruments from the early 1980s to 2009....when the trade name was sold to Jamm Industries (Canada). That Bakithi Kumalo still uses his Washburn, on occasion, is testament to the build quality and playability of tradename instruments from this time period.

Recently got my T24 out of storage, put some new strings on, and set it up as best I could. Still plays and sounds very nice. Bought off Amazon back in 2017, it was my first decent bass. Need to get it in to a professional at some point, because the nut slots are low and the open D and G strings buzz if I pluck too hard. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd known at the time how hard it rips off Jerzy Drozd, but I don't see myself ever getting rid of it now that I got it. Not like I'll ever be able to afford a real Jerzy Drozd.

Serial on mine is S15011687.

Back off strings and take them out of the nut. Put one small drop of super glue in slots of nut. Let if set for 24 hours. Put strings back in slots and tune. This isn't the professional way, but it works in a pinch. May need to do it again if needed. You still need to look at the neck for truss rod adjustment, warped neck, etc, and set intonation. There was an incredible luthier around here, but he died 3 years ago. He took one of my XB-600s that I got for $112 including shipping, (yes, it's true, and came with a $60 gig bag) and made it feel and sound better than my $2200 Fender American Elite Jazz 5. Best recording bass I've ever used. Cheers,

I just picked up a 2002 RB-2802.. The funny thing is, after a search of the interwebs, I cannot find any sort of catalog print with the 8 string version of the Hammerhead Rock Basses. Anywhere... I found 2000-2003 catalogs and they list the 2002, 2502, 2602, but no mention of the 2802. Anyone have any info?
