What Washburn Bass Do You Own (Database)?

Originally fugly green and bought for parts (with an open scarf joint) I managed to get somewhat playable.
Painted like the pic but it sounded SOOOO GOOOD I wanted it to be my main so I re-painted it
to candy apple red so I could use in in a worship setting.
But time eventually caught up to it.
Age and neck issues have made it unplayable.
Oh yeah .... weighed slightly less than a Buick!

Although I had decided a couple of years ago that five strings weren’t for me, I thought I should nevertheless still keep one in the studio for those occasions when I need to go below E and a detuned E-string isn’t really cutting it. So I bought this RB4500 about six months ago for a little under $400. As far as I can tell, that’s a pretty normal price for this instrument — if it were made in Korea, that is (as every one that I’ve found online is). However, this one is made in Japan, so it might be worth a bit more.
The serial number, as you can see from the attached photos is N001120011. I guess that means it was made in 2000 at a factory in Japan whose name begins with ’N’.
Initially I strung it with Rotosound stainless-steel Swing 66’s (45 ~ 130). But I soon found that the .130 B string wasn’t giving me the tension I wanted unless I tuned to C standard. I was, however, pretty pleased with the way it sounded when tuned to C standard, so I replaced the .130 with a D’Addario XL Pro Steel .135, tuned it to BEADG, and now it feels and sounds great.
The neck on this thing is very ‘fast’ - shallow profile and very narrow string spacing. The radius feels like it’s about 12”. Blindfolded, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were playing an Ibanez.
When I got it, the pickup height was set way too low (i.e. the strings were too high above the pickups). Despite being an active bass, pressing the pad switch on my amp was out of the question - much too quiet. So I added some extra foam under the pickups and raised them to 3mm below the strings. They’re still a little on the quiet side, but now I can depress the pad switch and attenuate the signal enough to allow me to get a few more useable tones out of the preamp. I’m pretty happy with 951/953 pickups and have no intention of replacing them.
I generally keep all the controls centred, which gives me just the right amount of low-frequency warmth and mid-frequency clarity on those low notes B to Eb. Which was the purpose of buying this bass in the first place. For a while, I toyed with the idea of upgrading to a Bartolini pre-amp, but after listening to some recordings I made, I feel it’s just fine as it is. A little different, but similar enough to the Jazz that I normally use for recording.
Owning this bass for 6 months has confirmed my conviction that I’m not a five-banger. Although I’m not going to play this instrument regularly, it serves its intended purpose, so I guess I’m going to keep it for a while.

The first two digits in the serial number probably mean yours was made in 2007.

After scanning the list of Washburns by serial number, I may have the oldest Force ABT in the group. SN 8060383. I wish it had the truss rod cover to solidify what I have like B-10 or B-20 so if anyone knows what series the twin offset Jazz Bass pickup configuration is, that’d help a lot. I have a feeling it’s worth more to someone here than what I paid for it so I’m open to offers…. It’s got more of a P-sized neck and I’m more a jazz style neck guy. The thing is an absolute monster, I got it to flip it because it was such a good deal but I might end up keeping it. Sounds THAT GOOD.

Hi DownlowJoe, it’s a Korean-made 1988 B-10. The B-20 also has slanted PUs but a different preamp with a pan pot instead of a switch.

I released my last Washburn bass into the wild , Someone recently bought it up at GC online - My former lightweight cool 1999/2000 XB-900 in stonewash blue / Had to thin out the collection

Had no intention of buying a bass today, but came across this and simply had to grab it... It was listed as an "S70". I've also seen these referred to as an "S1000". Those two models appear to be the same at a glance, however, I'm guessing there are some differences. Can somebody point them out to me? Thanks so much!
Only 1 Washburn that I've had since 1984, the B-60 (S/N 84283). I found the receipt yesterday and was shocked I paid that much for a bass when I was 17, $584+tax. That must be the reason I sold my SB-40. It was several months before Washburn was able to deliver it. The Rep was in my small town music store in MN I saw it in the marketing lit.

Back many many moons ago, (94-ish I believe), I picked up a Washburn XB-600 at the local music store. I changed out the pickups for a pair of killer EMG’s, and (Short of doing an Acoustic night with the Carvin AC-50), the XB is my go-bass for any gig.
