Hello Washies, here's my 1995 XB-200 I've been playing since high school. I have upgraded the bridge with Hipshots and tuners with Gotoh. Also replaced pickups with Bartolini Classic PJ set. Added Aguilar OBP-3 active EQ. So it must be like as good as it can be at the moment. I like the sound but can't reduce the action under a certain level. That is the only issue I have with my beloved.

You'll need a new pair of glasses, the serial of generalduncan basse is S5022137, so it's 1995. His bass is really nice and with the Bartolini pups and board it's surely as good as my PB-1250 with EMGs.

no serial number is apparent; nothing stamped anywhere on the bass and nothing on the underside of the control cavity cover either. plays/sounds great after a little truss rod and saddle adjustment. frets are HUGE; either the previous owner played with the softest touch imaginable, or it’d been refretted with super jumbo wire.

Here is some B-42 (aka Force 42 also) info for you:
The Force series B-42 (the official name and the B = Bass) came out in 1985 and sold for $899.00 (U.S.). But BBR'd instruments typically sold for around $100 (U.S.) more as you can see when you look at the price lists from back then. The price list for 1985 indeed lists the B-42 for $899 but does NOT mention the BBR version in the price list. Washburn made many errors like this between the ads and the price lists. Also the serial number was, unfortunately, a sticker. VERY rare to find a sticker on one nowadays. Now the BBR (Black body, Black hardware, Red binding) was produced in 1984 and 1985 ONLY! In fact in 1985 only the B-8 bass was BBR'ed but not on neck or headstock as in 1984 BBRs , while a1985 B-42 was BBR'd completely as far as I have been able to find. The other BBR's were all guitars in 1985. 1984 had lots of models BBR'd. Even without the SN sticker, we know your bass is a 1985 model! I have only one B-42 BBR in file---extremely rare. Without looking it up, I believe it is in England.
Hope I got all that straight---have been up almost 22 hours so a little slow on the draw tonight.

Ah, I see you have a 1985 B-8 BBR (SN?)! I bet you love the sound outta that! I looking at a Force 4 there..good bass (SN?). Don't see them in our database list. Am wondering about the owners manual. Is there a date on it? It should be a 1985 of course since it has the B-42 in it and there might be a piece or two of confirming history in it. Will go over it later. Any other pages in it?

I used the Washburn XB-200 at gigs throughout the 90's and 00's when it had the original hardware and electronics. I didn't like the tone back then but had no choice. It was weak, and I did not have a portable amp or DI box to straighten it. I had to plug in directly to mixing consoles. There were other build quality issues as well. The original bridge was terrible. One of the riders had been stuck it its place because of bad coating, and wouldn't move forward or back making it impossible to adjust intonation. Some rider screws were easily scraped, getting stuck at whatever level they are at.

It took years for me to finally afford a luthier for leveling the frets and replacing the hardware gradually. The Washburn cost me $499 in 1996. I must have spent more than the same amount on top for the Bartolini P-J pickups, Aguilar active EQ, Gotoh tuners, Hipshot bridge, new knobs and other luthier works. The only things I haven't replaced are the nut, input jack and pots which scrape the bottom of the new knobs when turning. Some time I need to replace the washers-nuts under the knob that fit better. Now the tone is more established and solid with deep lows.

Came home today with a Washburn Acoustic Bass.

I think that is tobacco sunburst, but IRL looks more mahogany. Told this is from the 90’s. “S” may mean solid top. “6” may be 1996. I’ll try to get better picks.
